Banfield and Dr. Geigel= THE BEST!!!! – My 15 year old dog had been whiny for some time and had really bad breath. Her vet said she was just a fussy old dog and too old to have her teeth cleaned. After a year of fussing and really horrible breath and increasing "fussiness", I decided to get a second opinion., I took her to Banfield and Dr. Geigel (looks young for his age) looked her over and wanted to run some tests. He discovered a large tumor on her spleen and a small one on her liver. He immediately called for surgery. After having removed her spleen, part of her liver, 4 molars and 2 incisors, my dog was on her way to recovery. In just one month, she is happy, healthy, running, jumping and acting like a young pup again. Her fussiness was pain. Her breath was bad teeth. Had I listened to the other doctor, my best friend might not be here anymore. I also saved approx. $800 in costs due to the Banfield Pet Health insurance plan. I did my research and this plan saved me a bundle. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Geigel and his staff. They all loved and cared for my dog as if she were one of their own. Now that my girl is healthy again, she sleeps through the night and so do I. We are once again a happy little family. Thank you Dr. Geigel and Banfield.
For gods sake, if you love your pet, do not bring them here. – PLEASE, look at this website before you bring your pet to Bansfield... You will have to google "consumeraffairs Bansfield" it will be the first search result . I read through about 10 of the reports, and realized that I was at the top of page that went on forever. The shier volume of reports was astounding. There is someone every day that brings there pet into Bansfield, and leaves with it in worst condition then when they started, and is charged a debilitating amount of money for services that weren't necessary in the first place. I bought their health care plan and was lead to believe that it would cover all my pets medical expenses. On the first visit under the new plan, I was presented with a bill for items that were not covered under the plan. They held my cat hostage until I paid them the amount they were overcharging me for. There solution was to have me go to another PetSmart, and start the plan that wasn't working for me all over again. They tried to compensate me by giving me some of their "First Shield" flea treatment, and it poisoned my cat and made all it's hair fall out.
Will NEVER go back!!! – I will NEVER take my dogs back to this or any Banfield hospital. We have been going to this Banfield for over 2 years, and had been patients at the one on Balcones Woods before we moved.
Recently, we took our dogs in for their wellness exams & a growth on one of our dog's paws. My husband made an appointment, and when he got there, he was told they wouldn't be able to see him that day. That has been a pretty consistent problem. We would ALWAYS make appointments, and then have to wait to be seen for an hour or more. I understand there are emergencies, but every time? He dropped them off the next day to be seen. The doctor said he would call my husband around 1pm. At 4:30, we had still not heard back, so I went ahead and called. I was told they were busy and would call me back. At 5:30, I called again. I was told they were busy and would call back. Around 6:00, the doctor finally called - 5 HOURS AFTER THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL MY HUSBAND!!! He went over our one dog's surgery and that it was sent off to the lab. Then, he proceeds to tell me that my other dog has heartworm & the treatment he would have to undergo. I asked him how that could be possible since I give them their heartworms each month. He seemed a little confused, and then said we could test him again after the new year. So, I would wait 2 and a half weeks to do the test again??? No way. I quickly took them to another vet that I have used as a 2nd opinion in the past - why I never switched over to this other vet the first time, I'm not sure. I went in the next day to the new vet and they did the blood test and sent it off to a lab, and the next day I found out the test came back negative. If I hadn't gotten that 2nd opinion, we would've gone through the $1000+ more treatment that HE DIDN'T NEED!!! Also, I had to take my other dog back to my new vet (Brykerwoods - they are wonderful!!!) because the paw he had surgery on was extremely infected. So, now a ton of money later, we are trying to cancel our stupid "insurance plan" and the corporate Banfield tells me I still have to pay over $300 for the months we haven't used yet. WHAT?!?!?!? DON'T SIGN UP FOR THEIR INSURANCE PLAN!!!! THEY WILL ROYALLY SCREW YOU OVER!!!! Also, my sister went to pick the dogs up from Banfield the day of the disaster visit, and she had to wait OVER AN HOUR to get the dogs. There wasn't a wait or anyone else in front of her. I am disgusted with the customer service present at Banfield. Whatever you do, avoid any Banfield like the plague.
The best animal care in Austin! – I have had my pet guinea pig for about 2 years. A guinea pig seems an odd pet for a 26-year-old but she is my baby and I love her very much. Everyone at the Mueller Banfield is so kind and came to know myself and my piggy quite well. Every single person I encountered was wonderful. These are the kindest bunch of people you will ever meet. Dr. Geigel-Ortiz has saved my little baby's life. It is pretty rare for a place to even take guinea pigs let alone actually know what they are doing but he knows his stuff! If you need a vet look no further! I cannot say enough good things about these guys!
Great Vet Care by Dr. Geigel-Ortiz and Dr. Brandon – We have two dogs that see Dr. Geigel and I have nothing negative to say about him or his veterinarian skills. He properly diagnosed our puppy's health condition and has treated her effectively. Unlike a lot of vets he will answer and address all of your questions and concerns regarding your pet. His care is thorough, and I feel he treats our dog as if it was his own. Our puppy also seems to enjoy the staff.
Regarding our other dog; he is extremely compassionate about her anxieties. After explaining to him the care she was receiving at her previous vet; he came up with an effective treatment plan controlling her stress level and anxieties.
I have never had an issues getting an appointment or dropping in when we had a pet emergency. The nursing staff and techs are awesome as well as the front desk staff.
I highly recommend Dr. Geigel-Ortiz and his assistant Dr. Brandon.
Wonderful – I have taken my dog to various Banfield's across Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington' and now Austin. I have received nothing but great treatment for him (even a bout with heartworms) and courteous treatment for him. The monthly well pet program for both my dog and my cat is worth it, because when they're due for shots and checkups, we just go. For people with limited financial resources (I'm a grad student) this has been the BEST solution for me and my menagerie. I would recommend them to anyone.
Horrible – have been to the Banfield Pet Hospital 1736 in Austin about six times for one initial visit. I had an absolutely horrible experience there and will never be back.
They were way overpriced, they bullied me into expensive tests for my dog that was unnecessary, they lost my insurance paperwork causing me to make three unnecessary trips there, were rude and completely incompetent.
The Taco Bell down the street is a well-oiled mecca run by geniuses compared to that hospital. The only saving grace there is a young woman named Debbie. She was the only one who seemed to care and know what was going on.
