Henry Davidsen is owned and operated by Brian. He is by no means a tailor and certainly not a masterful one- so the name of the business is very misleading. When you first visit with Brian - he will give you an excellent presentation which will make it difficult for you to walk out of his store without having purchased something. The fact of the matter is - Brian will take your measurements and then have your order shipped to an Asian country where the suit is actually made. As a result the person making the suit ( the tailor) - the most important person in the whole suit making process-never gets to see or measure the client nor develop a client/tailor relationship which is very essential in the suit making process. Therefore, the suit Brian sells you will never fit as well as a tailored made suit should. If you are a discerning client this will bother you-it certainly bothered me. My vest was way too short and ended way above the belt buckle and the pants were made horribly. The waist was too big and the the inseam was sewn improperly leading to a very baggy fitting. Since Brian was not the person actually making the alterations and at the time I had my suit made there was no onsite tailor I had to go back to him several times for fittings and measurements. He would then bring it back to tailor to make the alterations. So you can imagine this was a very long painstaking process. After many trips to his shop he was able to get the pants to fit somewhat properly. Quite frankly, my Banana Republic pants fit better than the ones Brian gave me. At the end I ran out of patience and time and just took the pants as they were. I had to spend another 100 dollars and take them to a reputable tailor in Main Line to fix the sub-par job done by H. Davidsen. If you are looking for a level perhaps slightly above department store garments this might be the place for you. But if you want a genuine custom bespoke fitted suit and you are a very observant and savvy dresser with a keen eye this is not the place for you. My recommendation would be to shop around for authentic bespoke tailors -there are plenty outside of the city and in NYC. I know my review may be hard for some to believe considering the number of positive preceding reviews. But I have detailed my experience with H. Davidsen. Having been around friends in the fashion industry for sometime I believe I can spot bespoke tailoring and unfortunately Henry Davidsen just doesn't deliver.
I'm a hard to dress guy and have always had problems finding clothes that fit, not to mention look good. I am 6'9" and lanky, which makes that doubly true for suits and dress shirts. If I find something with sufficient arm length, the neck is too big and the body looks like a parachute; if the neck and body are okay, it hits at my midriff. The result is that I have never felt good in the suits and shirts I've worn. My experience with Henry A. Davidsen was a game-changer. Mike Oxman invited me to the showroom and in my first consult explained the fundamentals of men's suits and how they applied to me as a hard-to-fit guy. I felt comfortable asking questions about my look and image that I've never voiced before. From the first to the final fitting, it was smooth sailing and at each step Mike took the time to explain the process and make sure everything was okay. When I put my suits and shirts on, I understood in an instant what a finely made suit can do for a man. I'll be back again and again and would happily recommend Henry A. Davidsen to any guy interested in making a positive change in the way they look and feel.
Terrific service. I recently consulted with the staff at Henry Davidsen to have a tuxedo made. I wanted a regular tuxedo with dinner jacket and a matching tailcoat, including a tuxedo shirt, braces, and two bow-ties. The service was outstanding and they worked with me to get exactly the look and feel I wanted with each piece. Brian and Mike did an excellent job of guiding me through the process, helping me make the best decisions to get my desired effect, and keeping me informed with the progress. The on-site tailor, Jay, was the best I've ever dealt with. His knowledge and passion for the art was impressive and helped me feel confident that this really was the best option for my needs. I look forward to working with them again for my future clothing projects and I recommend them to anyone who wants true, high-quality work.
An Incredible Experience – I was recently married and decided to chose Henry A. Davidsen for my wedding suit purchase. Brian's expertise and professionalism, as well as the overall quality of the experience was second to none. Brian took the time to ensure that my suit and shirt looked as great as it fit! I received countless compliments on the suit and have since recommended Henry A. Davidsen to several of my colleagues. Simply put, if you are looking for the finest in custom-fit apparel look no further!
Henry A. Davidsen, my new best friend! – Henry A. Davidsen came to my rescue, and exceeded my expectations. It's not easy being a part of a bridal party, especially when all of the groomsmen are supposed to wear the exact same suit. Brian was able to make me a suit that matched the other groomsmen (their suits were purchased from a chain store) right down to every last exact detail. The fit and the quality of my Henry A. Davidsen suit had the others wishing that they would have went this direction and spoke with Brian as well. The attention to detail, education, and communication that Brian provided me with was like nothing that I have received before. I look forward to adding new items to my wardrobe from Henry A. Davidsen.
Just Great! Best in the City – Where to start? The wardrobe I have started to create with Brian's help is simply beautiful. The shirts and suits literally fit like a glove and look great, but the clothes are really secondary to the approach and guidance Brian provides. Brian takes the time to go over every detail of each piece, explaining how each difference makes a unique statement. For someone who used to dread picking out suits, I am now completely comfortable knowing I can rely on Brian to help with every aspect of building a sharp wardrobe. I will only go to Henry Davidsen from now on
Fantastic – Absolutely fantastic. I just picked up my first suit from Brian last week and wore it for the first time this past Tuesday. I have been wearing a suit almost every day for the past 12 years and I received not only 1 but 3 unsolicited compliments on how well the suit looked on me. I'm meeting with Brian to start working on my second suit next week. If you are looking for a superb quality and outstanding service look no further.
Philadelphia's King of Custom Tailored Suits – if you are looking for top notch service paired with excellent quality then look no further than Henry A. Davidsen. Brian walked me through the process, educated me on what colors and patterns worked best for me and then executed to a T with perfection.
Suit Education – I live in Florida and own a condo on Spruce in the Rittenhouse Square area. I recently decided to educate myself on the benefits of a quality custom suit. My home area offers the usual mall chain clothing stores. I had no idea of suit construction, materials etc. Brian spent the better part of a morning detailing suit construction, pros and cons of various materials, impressions that various colors create, shirt materials and more. This was followed by meticulous measuring of every imaginable length width diameter down to the wrist diameter on my watch arm for a better fit. Living mostly in the south the suit weight was critical. Upon departing my wife commented that she had no idea prior to our meeting that we would come away with so much information. He accomplished all of this despite temporarily having to use crutches.
After a return for a fitting session a few weeks later, the suit was shipped to my home and exceeded my expectations. After wearing it recently at a business function I felt no need to change prior to a 3 hour drive home. Total comfort.
I will buy whatever I need in the future from Brian despite living a distance away.
Awesome! – Awesome place, my soon to be husband got his tux there and all the men in the wedding did. Matched perfect with my bridesmaids gowns!
