Great birthday dinner!. We went to celebrate my son's 15th birthday with a party of 9 and had a wonderful time! The service was excellent The hibachi chef was very good and entertaining He made an amazing flaming onion volcano that the kids loved! The food was very good and plentiful. We did not have any of the sushi but the teriyaki, yakisoba, gyoza and hibachi seafood, steak and shrimp were very good. We all had a terrific time and will be back. $250 for 9 people including tip was pretty good as well for a special birthday celebration. By the way to a previous reviewer,I am not an owner or employee of the restaurant and I think it is a good restaurant and will go back!
Fun place to go for as a group. The owners did a nice job turning the Old Country Buffet into a hibachi steak house and sushi place. My son loved going to watch the chef and ate things he normally would have turned up his nose at. We always have a nice time there and groups had fun watching the show. As for the sushi, it is average. The crab is artificial, so if you are gluten-free avoid all rolls that include crab. Certainly acceptable and we visit when we want sushi but don't have time to drive into Seattle.
There's never any cars parked out front.
I've been in there because I saw how many outstanding reviews were on this site and I have to tell you this is a very average steakhouse with nothing particularly special about the service or the quality of food given the pricepoints they are at.
I would venture to say that the owners come on this site and post counterfeit reviews to keep business going.
Keep driving into downtown. You want a decent meal and great service I'd go to the Brooklyn, not this place.
Great, fresh sushi. I live close by and have now been to Fuji twice. Both times, I've gone for the sushi, which is served in a seperate area than the noisy habachi room. Even though it is seperate, however, there is no real physical barrier so the noise can carry. On a recent Friday night, the sushi area was not too croweded, but there were some very noisy crowds in the habachi area. Both times I've been to Fuji the seafood has been very fresh, and the price is very reasonable.
the best in ever catagory.. I took my family there for a birthday. The manager greeted us and gave us all 15% off even though it was after happy hour! Kids eat for $5! the food is better and it costs less!!!! the staff cooking in front of us were amazing. Justin was hilarious and did great tricks, many more then benihana. Ping was teach the table over to do sake bombs for a birthday! Everyone said hello to my 2 year old son and he was giggling and smiling the whole time. This places is all around much better then any restaurant I have ever been too the staff were personable, well trained, funny, smiling, and made us feel like family. The food was high quality and well cooked. The place was very clean. The drinks were awesome. I can't say enough good things about this place. I would recommend this to any body and everybody. Tell them May sent you!
My Favorite Sushi.
Very little alterations made to the external presentation of from when it was an OCB. We were curious and went in, it is lovely inside. Immediately the management sought to make our experience the best possible. Initially I was a little confused by being asked for an alcohol order upon entry, though I think because it was a very quiet Wednesday night he was also acting bartender and sought to expedite our order.
We sat in the Sushi bar and there was hesitation that my husband could still order hibachi there, I was more comfortable with the presentation from afar. The standard ‘sushi’ was ridiculously cheap and the best I have ever had. The ‘philly’ sushi roll was delicious had amazing smoked salmon that was different to the salmon in the California roll and the sesame seeds were very tasty.
Upon tasting our food we started planning who we would take here. It is sad that more people haven’t discovered this place. The blinds are kept closed to maintain the fantastic intimate atmosphere but that keeps the outside from seeing in! Perhaps if the blinds were updated to some wide wooden ones, some detail colors on the external paintwork or stylized plants in the garden would help. Regardless step inside and share this Shoreline gem with us!
Worth checking out-good place.
My parents live in Shoreline and we were trying to find a place to celebrate mine and my dad's birthdays (we are a day apart) and I wanted to have steak. My dad suggested Fuji and all I could think of was the horrible OCB that had been there for years, but after I read the reviews on here, I decided to try it out.
Good choice! The food was really great and Hibachi style cooking is perfect for my mom who is particular about how her food is cooked, since you can see them cooking right in front of you. They have a lot of fun surprises up their sleeves, the manager/owner? is really personable, and they had a surprise for the birthdays. This reminds me of one of my favorite restaurants in my college town and I always leave feeling full!
Definitely have to check it out!. We went to lunch on a Saturday and we are happy to say that there's a hibachi restaurant that's affordable and does not skimp on the serving, service and not to mention the food. Delicious filet mignion, shrimp, salmon and scallops...fried rice and veggies! Great waitress and show! I heard good things from my coworkers in Shoreline and my family were extremely pleased. We will definitely return again. Wished that we knew about this place before we went to BeniHana's for a special occasion.
Great Japanese Restaurant in Shoreline!. We decided to try Fuji as we live just a couple miles away and we're always looking for new places to eat without having to travel downtown or the eastside. Our son's favorite resaurant is Tokyo's in Woodinville (also Tepan style), but after tonight's dinner, he actually said that he prefers Fuji. We were pleasantly surprised once we walked in the door. The decor is very nice. Hardwood (pergo) floors, nice wood work and tasteful decorations. It's really hard to believe that it once was OCB. The service is excellent! It's very apparent that the management instills good customer service - from the host, to the chef and all wait staff. The food was excellent. They start you off with miso soup, followed by salad. The chef then comes out and does the standard tepan performance. Good fried rice, tasty veggies and shrimp appetizer. Between the three of us, we had steak, chicken, and lobster. It was all top notch! They finished the meal off with a complimentary scoop of ice-cream. We were very pleased with our experience and we'll definitely be back again!
