Fantastic romantic restaurant with delicious food! – The ambiance of this restaurant is wonderful. It's small and cute. Seating is tight, but it makes it kind of feel home-y.
The food was fantastic. We had the truffle fondue which was great and highly recommended. We ordered some wine from the wine list which was great. Our chicken entrees were great. We finished off the evening with some amazing creme brulee. All in all, it was a very romantic evening and a very special way to celebrate my birthday. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant.
The most inviting, friendly, and best food for a great sit down restaurant – I have lived in Los Gatos 36yrs I go to most restaurants in the area, I called the Wine Celler to make a reservation for ten I was told thats fine and they needed my credit card to hold a reservation at 6pm I don't give out my card info since I have had fraud twice in the last 6 months I told the manager this and was told they couldn't make the reservation I said ok thanks and hung up.
Well it turned out to be the best thing I ever did, I ended up making a reservation at Crimson on the other side of town the 10 of us showed up and we all agreed it was one of the most fantastic meals we have had in years.
I am not one to give out compliments easy since I have been in the restaurant business for 36 years but the Crimson deserves a big big thumbs up.
You have to try this place the owners and the employees have to be the best I have ever had the pleasure to be served by.
I have traveled the world and dont remeber when I have had a more enjoyable time and meal.
Inflated wine prices – The food was good, the service was great, but the whole experience was soured by inflated wine prices. The markup was a little ridiculous. Next time we'll bring our own wine and pay the corkage fee.
Classic American Comfort Food with a twist – I went for a friend's birthday with a group of 12. When we arrived our table had been festively doecorated and the service was spot-on. Everyone at the table ordered something different and no one spoke negatively about the food -i n fact quite a few people walked away saying it was their favorite restaurant in Los Gatos. I ordered the truffle fondue with my husband to start and had the flat iron steak. No complaints here - the food is impeccable!
Charming and sweet – I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. Went there on a weekday for lunch with a friend. It was romantic, charming, and the servers were all very attentive yet unobtrusive. It was cozy yet elegant and classy. Had the skirt iron steak sandwich and hummus appetizer. Both were excellent, flavorful, and worth coming back for! Beware the current construction on the strip mall near the entrance, it may look like it's closed but it's not.
A horrible dining experience!!! – My husband and I had the misfortune to choose this restaurant for our anniversary celebration and the evening was completely destroyed due to some of the worst service we have ever encountered. To start, my husband and I our vegetarians and the two main vegetarian courses that were listed on the website were simply not there on the actual menu. After we were brought bread and water, we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our drink orders..no one came. I tried vainly to get the waitress' attention, when I finally did I was told she wasnt our server and she couldnt help us. We got so disgusted we left. We ended up having our anniversary dinner in a sandwich shop. It wasnt the romantic dinner we planned, but at least we werent ignored and got served. We will never visit this place again.
Excellent Food in Unlikely Location – We thought we were lost- the address pointed us to a strip mall. But, once you're through the door the gorgeous colors, the friendly & attentive (but, not TOO attentive) wait staff, and amazing food make you forget where you are. Maybe I'm just a suckr for truffles and foie gras, but it worked. I loved the Truffled Cheese Fondue and still dream about the Seared Foie Gras and Filet Mignon special (note- we dined here in December '05 and I'm STILL dreaming about that meal PLUS I'm generally not a huge fan of beef). Loved the interior- gorgeous colors and flower arrangements!
Unfortunate Experience – I went to this pace twice after seeing the advertisments in the WAVE magazine, and because it is on the Passport list. First time I ordered the Truffle Fondue, which was okay, and some special ribs which were slow cooked all day. Tender, but salty. I couldn't quite finish it, and when they packed to go box for me, they forgot to include the meat! Second time, I tried the Prime grade flat iron steak, but it was so covered in sauce and buried in mashed potatos that I found the experience to be lost. Both times I've been I've found the dishes a bit over salted to my liking (which given my tastes, is saying something). Worse yet, the last time I went the chef/owner was having a loud conversation with a table a few feet away by literally leaning over our table to yell at them, pretty much drowning out the conversation I was having with my girlfriend and making a very unpleasant experience. Sorry, but never, ever going back.
I can't believe the negative reviews! – I've been here several times and it is always wonderful. Service is very friendly, the owner will come talk to you about the food, the crab cakes are to die for, seafood is amazing, and it's always fun. There are over the top dishes (like the filet mignon with foie gras!!) and good values. I can't wait to go there again!
Service Okay, Short Ribs Stellar – Of all places, Crimson is located in a strip mall which is odd because for the strange ambience, it commands really high prices. The servers tended to congregate by the cash register and are a bit loud. As a guest, I felt like a stranger in the company of a very close clique. Although most of what we ate was just okay, my husband and I were blown away by their short ribs. As carnivores, we've had plenty of short ribs at plenty of other restaurants but none have come close to the entree offered at this restaurant. So unbelievable, in fact, that we decided to overlook both the loud service and non existent ambience and return for the short ribs four times now.
