This is a true story. Please read entirely.

My wife truly enjoys live music, entertainment, food, fun and drinks. So I took her and her friends out to this Piano Bar/Restaurant in Coconut Grove – Miami, Fl. (called Crazy Pianos) for her 36th Birthday. Somehow I managed to rack up a bill for almost $1,500 (not including tip). The truth was – we had a fairly good time and I was ok with the amount, so I put it on my AmEx (without hesitation). Our waitress was very nice so I left an additional $100 on top of 18% gratuity. On our way out, the manager stops a member of our party and says to him that he needs to pay an additional $40 due to an unpaid tab. The sad part is, the person the manager had confronted had just arrived and never ordered any food or drinks. Refusing to pay, this person tried to walk out. The manager ordered the bouncers to barricade the exit doors. One bouncer grabbed him by the neck and threatened not to let him leave until he pay the $40. Next, another member of our party entered to settle the commotion, was warned to stay outside, then was stiff-armed by another bouncer and then tackled by the three other bouncers. This person was laying flat on the concrete, face down, a bouncer’s knee to his back and another bouncer’s boot planted on his face.

The police officers patrolling Cocowalk responded to the scene. The person tackled by the bouncers was placed under arrest and into a patrol car (his wife hysterically crying). Mind you, these are civilized, mature and educated people celebrating my wife’s 36th birthday. Next, the police officers question both parties. I advised one officer that I just finished paying $1,500. I then told the officer that the restaurant manager barricaded the doors – not allowing people in my party to leave over a $40 tab. When I showed the officer my receipt, he laughed, determined that the guy they put under arrest was wrongfully treated and eventually removed him from the patrol car.

The officers could not believe how poorly and physically we were treated from the staff at Crazy Piano’s in Miami. I have never seen anybody physically man-handled to the ground by a group of restaurant thugs. You would expect a restaurant manager to know how to approach the situation and conduct himself professionally instead of ordering his staff to physically barricade people in. It was like watching a movie. I don’t recommend this establishment to anyone. It is extremely unprofessional and I will never return to Crazy Piano’s.

WTF???? – All right…first of all my issue with Crazy Pianos started even before get there, we were trying to make a reservation to celebrate my wife’s B-day for approximately 12 to 15ppl.

I saw others reviews about charging $5 couvert which I never heard in a Miami restaurant/bar, but ok we can afford 5 bucks the place looks nice, once we got in contact with the place the office manager Jessica told us that we need to guarantee that all our guests will order a entrée…..what??? Are u serious???

No I cannot guarantee this but for sure we will drink, we are all 30’s and 40’s so we DRINK and definitely some will eat including my wife and myself, ok and then she sad that in this case we need to pre-order the drinks, WTF….kidding ???!!!

Ok let me pre-order a pitcher of mojito and another pitcher of beer……she told us that this is not enough we need to pre-order appetizers for the table also.

Are u serious??? Go to h*ll , we are going somewhere else, I just couldn’t believe about this conversation, when we go out we all eat and drink it’s just stupid making us and my guests to pre-order food and drinks, when we go out we never spend less than $120 couple, so that should be a $700 table minimum that they lost because of this bullsh***

Very disappointed, never will go there and definitely do not recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure why everyone doesnt love this place – if youre looking for a fun evening out, than this is the place to go. It was fun, upbeat and very entertaining. We plan to go again.

Unique for Miami – Really liked this theory. Drinks were good, atmosphere was good, fun, lively. But when we did make requests, and pay for the songs to be played...they either didnt play the request or only played 1/2 of it before switching into another song. So in some ways I was dissappointed because at Piano bars, I want to hear good Piano songs...i.e. elton john, billy joel, alicia keys...and yeah they may get played all the time, but if I wanted hip hop, I wouldnt be at a piano bar, you know what I mean? But other than that, it was a fun time, and I would go back again, just with different expectations.

All around disappointing :-( – I recently moved to Miami from NYC and when I came across this restaurant I thought, Great! what a fantastic concept. I still feel the concept is great, however, two things are lacking.

First, the food is just average. That's ok, but the prices are above average and that's a problem. I have eaten there twice and both times the meals were disappointing.

That said, I can survive a lack luster meal if there is fantastic entertainment. Unfortunately, at Crazy Pianos there wasn't. The piano players seemed pretty bored and cynical about their jobs. They were checking their cell phones during the set. A woman made a request and didn't send money with it and they publicly embarrassed her about it. Every third or fourth song they would comment abot how they were starving artists and need to patrons to, "show them love" by giving them tips....this got really old!

Then, in a gesture to get things going I gave a song request AND tip with it. They then criticized my song request and went on a tirade about the most requested songs which they are soooo tired of playing. Of course, after that there were no more requests.

I have been to places in NYC where this kind of entertainment is lively and fun. I was hoping to have the same experience here. Personally, I think that if the musicians are that bored, they should move over and give way to new talented musicians who would be happy to entertain an audience of paying customers.
