The lobby at the Ace Hotel is more than a lobby; it's a meeting place for the young and beautiful, spacious and busy, with deep couches, free wireless, and its own, very good bar. Some of the country's best coffee is available at Stumptown, a few feet away, and of course The Breslin itself is a meatery of the very highest order.
AVOID THIS BAR LIKE WESLEY SNIPES AVOIDS PAYING TAXES – I've never been more disgusted with a bar in my life and I've been to hundreds of them due to work.
Unfortunately, I went here recently and some dbag at the bar started a fight with my friend for no reason. It took security way too long to break up the fight. Eventually, they restrained the guy and allowed him to attack my friend again because he wasn't immediately thrown out. Both of my friend's shirts were ripped in the process, he lost one of his contact lenses, he cut his hand on one of the broken glasses, and he was punched in the face. Due to the IMCOMPETENT SECURITY and POOR DOOR CONTROL, the Ace Hotel is an UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT. If only the MADNESS ended there...but it DOESN'T!
My friends and I were there as a group and collectively spent a few hundred dollars at the bar, but were basically told to leave after the incident. The best part of the story is that ONE OF THE BARTENDERS/SERVERS CHANGED THE TIP AND TOTAL AMOUNTS ON MY RECEIPT AFTER I SIGNED IT. I just checked my credit card statement online and saw the fraudulent charges. 3 of the people I was there with are attorneys, including the guy who was punched. If you steal money from someone, what do you think happens to you?
A Flatiron hotel bar catering to hipsters instead of suits. – A collage of stickers circa 1994 through 2004 selected by graffiti artist Michael Anderson lines the grand staircase of the hotel lobby. High coffered ceilings and mosaic tiled floors are original details from the hotel’s former life as the Breslin, for which the bar is named. Creative types snag spots on comfy velvet couches and upholstered plaid chairs, and Mac users perch at long, laboratory-style tables sipping $7 bottles of Brooklyn Pilsner while munching on caramel popcorn and salt and vinegar chips.1990s hits play in the background, giving the space a low-key, almost collegiate feel.
