Inside the historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market is not where you’d expect to find a foodie-obsessed burger joint. But set at a minimalistic cool-yet-gritty lunch counter, Grindhouse’s hidden-find vibe makes you want to urgently tweet your destination. Burgers arrive wrapped in fast-food-style paper sleeves and are a perfect size--not so big where it’s hard to eat but still loaded and filling. Angus beef is mild and melds nicely with gooey ingredient options, but the pure brilliance is in the roll choice: potato buns. Incredibly soft, these jokers allow you to almost inhale the sandwich, immediately making one wonder why potato buns aren’t mandatory casing for burgers everywhere. Crispy, crinkle-cut fries are well-seasoned while milkshakes get a local twist with Whynatte as the energetic coffee flavor. The menu is simple and cheap, burgers are out of this world and the location is endearing. It’s the real deal.
Sweet Auburn Curb Market's New Burger Joint! – Growing up in Atlanta, as a child, there was only one place in Atlanta, to get fresh grown vegetables locally. Back then, it was just called the Curb Market. The characters who rented the stahls, the smells, sights of freshly butchered meats, all added to a wonderful experience. And now, changing with the times, a Burger Bar. Freshly made, as you like it, or one of the specials. A great urban oasis, and a very good burger! The Apache Burger is awsome!
Amazing Burgers in a Cool Location – I read about this place in a bunch of online blog reviews, and decided to venture to the Sweet Auburn Curb Market to take a look for myself. Grindhouse is inside of the market, which makes for a very interesting experience. Within a few feet of the burger bar are a variety of meat, produce and fish vendors. There's free parking in a lot behind the market - I didn't realize this, but if you bring your ticket in Grindhouse will put a sticker on it and validate it.
Now to the burgers - they're simply amazing. The basics of it - the bun and the meat - are as good as I've had anywhere in town. And you can customize it any way you want to. I'm from the west coast, so I had to try the Apache style, which has roasted new mexico green chiles, grilled onions and cheese. This can be found in a lot of places out west, but I haven't seen it anywhere on the east coast. It might be my new favorite burger in ATL! Also the onion rings are perfect - they're not battered, they're just kind of crispy and perfect.
If you're up for an adventure, go check this place out. I think it kills Anne's snack shop and Flip burger, and its MUCH quicker than either of those places. Holeman and Finch might be the only place that I think cooks a better burger in Atlanta. Next time, I'm gonna try the milkshakes and the homemade chili.....
