This Inner Richmond spot is a lounge in the proper sense of the word--less a sleazy, glowing, thump-thumping nightclub and more a relaxing, dimly lit venue for loud stoner tunes, cheap cocktails and good food. The space's long bar, built in DJ decks and leather banquettes look much more appropriate for drinking than eating, but Mazu boasts a full Asian fusion menu of both snackable portions (things like garlic wings, samosas and lumpia) and meal-sized entrees (soba noodles, hot and sour soup, kalbi ribs, miso-glazed sea bass). There's no pressure to eat though--many of the patrons filling the booths and barstools are there just to sample the soju cocktail list, with creative flavor profiles like watermelon and mint, oolong and honey, hibiscus and lemongrass or grapefruit and Thai chili. While it's a little too dark and a little too loud for a dinner date, head over for a cocktail and light meal and you'll find it's just right.
