Fantastic Mexican food in a cute spot – We went here on a warm evening and sat out back on the patio. The waiters were friendly and prompt, very quickly serving us water that they refreshed constantly during the meal. We weren't too hungry and shared the delicious guacamole with fresh tortillas and some fantastic enchiladas. Nothing beats well-made rice and beans. A couple of cold beers and the evening was perfect.

terrible customer service – I can't rate the food here, because the management of the wait list was so bad that we didn't actually eat here. Went here with a friend on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation, so anticipated a wait (we know how it goes on the weekend), but went at 6:30, thinking that would be early enough that the wait wouldn't be too bad. We were told it would be 40-50 minutes and were thinking of heading elsewhere, but they told us they often recommend people go across the street to Beer Table to get a drink, and that we could leave a number and they would call us when a table opened up. This sounded like a good plan, so we left for Beer Table after giving them a cell phone number. (Beer Table, incidentally, has fantastic service, and next time I will just go there for the whole evening.) An hour and 15 minutes passed and we settled up at Beer Table and headed back over to Fonda, where we were greeted by a blank look when we asked about why we hadn't been called, and told the wait was half an hour. Coincidentally, we ran into friends, seated at a table for two, who told us that they also had no reservation and had been seated when a party of 6 didn't show up and the restaurant divided it into 3 2-tops. That was three opportunities to call that they didn't use. When confronted with this, the man and woman at the door both shrugged and said "we got busy," without a hint of apology and with the kind of arrogance I would only expect from a destination Manhattan restaurant. I'm fine with a wait, but when you tell customers that you frequently send people across the street and call, those customers are going to assume you actually use that policy. At that point, we were an hour and a half into the evening, hungry, and could have eaten at Beer Table, which I wish we'd done. It was only when we started to walk out that the people at the door backpedaled, offering a free margarita, but there was nowhere to stand and drink it, so we declined. I won't be going back. The only good thing I can say about this place is to thank them for sending us to Beer Table and then finally to Sidecar, where we ended up eating, both of which had fantastic service.

phenomenal food! – Perfect food, really. We had a party of 8 there in November... wait staff was friendly and fast. Food was impeccable. We all left perfectly happy.

Citysearch Editorial Review – In this slim, red-walled Brooklyn eatery, Mexico City-born chef Roberto SantibaƱez (formerly of Rosa Mexicana) turns out upscale, perfectly portioned south-of-the-border meals to eager locals willing to fight for a seat. Luckily, a large outdoor garden space accommodates the spillover crowd--while strong margaritas soothe long waits at the bar. Must-try items include the made-to-order guacamole (served with chips and handmade corn tortillas), tangy enchiladas suizas and refreshing salpicon (crispy fish with cilantro and chiles).

Best Mexican Food in the Slope – We couldn't park anywhere near 5 Guys one night so we drove a little farther down 7th ave. to a relatively new mexican restaurant my wife had heard good things about.

It was a beautiful evening so we were happy we could sit in the back garden.

Fresh mada guacamole, chips and salsa got our night off just right.

A couple of small bowls of some kind of hot sauces arrived on the table and were fantastic with the guac. Really heated things up nicely.

As soon as I finished my soda our waiter whisked away the empty glass and returned quickly with a new one. No words were spoken...how did he know?! Were they just trying to pump up the bar tab?

I wish I could remember what my wife had because it was AWESOME!

I had the burger with tasty mexican toppings and thought it was the best I'd ever had. (Look out 5 Guys!)

The fries were excellent dipped in those mystery sauces I mentioned earlier.

The whole experience was great and we can't wait to go back.

btw... free refills on the soda!
