amoung the best – Great place for color and cut, Edward is back and he is great, you need a new stylist that will listen and do an exelente job need to see him, he is at the lincon park location. Great spa services as well.
NEVER GO HERE - Old Town Location!!!!! – The stylist was excellent, but the management staff is the rudest I have ever had to deal with before in my life. I will never go back!!! I originally went to this salon due to location - I live very l close by, but I would rather drive an hour or longer - than deal with the type of treatment I received from the management -- awful! Do not waste your time or money!
Great Haircuts, But Something's Got To Be Up... – I've gone to Salon 1800 in Old Town for a while now and have always loved my haircuts. I once even loved my cut so much that I called the salon the next day to say thank you to the stylist again for doing such a great job. However, since my first visit, I've been through 5 different stylists all because they have quit. My last visit, I was determined to find someone I could go to more than once, so I scheduled my appointment with Amy, who had been there for 4 years. Upon meeting me, she even commented on how many stylists I've been to at that location. This just makes me wonder what's going on there that this salon has such a high turnover rate.
Granted, I've always gotten good service from the stylists there, but it's a huge pain to go through the effort of getting re-acquainted with a new stylist every time I go in. I just got a phone call from a rather curt receptionist saying Amy had left and I needed to reschedule my upcoming appointment with another stylist. I refuse to. I simply can't take it anymore. I'm going to find a new salon that I can count on.
100% IN LOVE WITH MY HAIR! THANK YOU Salon 1800 in Oldtown! – I have always had "problem" hair. My hair is very fine and hard to work with so I had never really been able to get a look that I liked to wear. I tried several different salons in the Chicago area spending anywhere between $35-$100 a haircut and never really felt like anyone was actually studying the condition of my hair they were just "cutting it" as if my needs were unimportant. Then I was at Starbucks one day when I saw a woman with a really cute cut and color that I loved and had hair very similar to mine. She told me to go see Heather at Salon 1800 in Oldtown (I guess there's two). So I did and I LOVE MY HAIR! I swear I have never had such a great experience in my life with my hairstylist. She was extremely thorough with me and was very focased on my needs. She spent 15 min. just consulting with me! Ususally they can't wait to get you out of the door..The staff was also very professional and kind (unlike a few other places I've been...) I was very comfortable there and I plan to spread the word! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting the salon!
Terrible Customer Service – I had a fantastic experience the first time I came here. The second time, I tried to reschedule for a 1/2 hour later due to a conflict- needed to see a friend in the hospital- and they were completely inflexible and said they were going to charge my credit card full price for a cancellation. I totally understand the need for cancellation policies- many people are irresponsible and just won't show up for appointments. However, there needs to be a little wiggle room if you want to create loyal customers! I NEVER no-show appointments, I RARELY cancel them and I am a Chicagoan with years of salon needs that they just want to throw out the door to get their measly $50. I called as SOON as I knew about my conflict- 8 hours notice! I'm so frustrated that I spent 20 minutes on the phone trying to get a courtesy pass on the charge when I should have been attending to more important things. As a student, 50 bucks is a lot to through away. I agree with many of the other posts- BAD SERVICE. There are plenty of places to get a great haircut where the people aren't jerks!
Best Waxing in town – I highly recommend seeing Fabiola for any type of waxing you need. She is excellant. I had my first brazillian from her last year after being recommened by a friend. A brazillian definately is a little painful, but she makes the experience great and always makes me feel comfortable in an uncomfortable situation!
Poor Customer Service – I've been going to Salon 1800 for a few years. The prices were always on the high side, but I got great cuts and color so I didn't mind. Well, my stylist left and I had to try someone new. What a disaster!! My hair turned out a horrible color (rich does not mean purple) and the cut was just so-so. When I told them I was upset they tried to correct the problem by adding more color (think purple and black stripes) and then charged me full price. I had to go get my hair stripped somewhere else to not look like a punk rocker. I will not be going back.
Go to Old Town-The Receptionists are always sweet and I love my Esthetician!! – I moved to Chicago from L. A. a few months ago and was looking for a stylist and Esthetician. The thought of having to find new favorites seemed more like a long term goal. Well, I got lucky! Tiffany is awesome!!!! She gave me an incredible facial (trust me, I've had a few) and she made my brows beautiful. Stevie gave me the best cut I've had in years. She carefully listened to all my little requests and concerns and gave me exactly what I wanted. I've been there 4 times and everyone I interact with seems professional and friendly. It doesn't sound like the salon the others are complaining about- maybe they've changed staff?

Old Town Location - Unskilled, Poor Professionalism – I spent 20 minutes on the phone before I booked my appointment because it was important to me find a good colorist. When I arrived, there were several minutes of awkwardness. My stylist had apparently quit earlier that day. Both assistant manager and receptionist assured me that they had called all of her appointments, then changed the story when I pointed out that my cell never rang.
They offered to find another stylist for me. This woman was apparently on break and, evidenced by my wait, in no hurry to end it. That should have been my clue. I came in requesting a lighter color in the gold/warm family. I knew something was wrong even when my hair was wet. I tried to be polite, but as a physician, I am trained to pay attention to my patients' facial expressions and mannerisms. (Beauty schools take note.) When it was dry, the new highlights were white/gray/ash. I pointed out this was not what we had discussed and she huffed "I see there's nothing I can do to make you happy. I'll get my manager." Another stylist was called and agreed that my hair did not look like the picture or the color promised. She made some suggestions for improvement, which the stylist declined to implement because she had another client coming. They did discount the cost of the service, however I have now paid $100 for color someone else will have to correct and damage that cannot be corrected.
