Too Much Salt – I like the restaurant but will just need to work on the food to ensure it's top quality and not so soo salty.

The Perfect Dish - An Incredible Dinning Experience – Last night (11/22/09), my partner and I took two of our closest friends to Dish for a special dinner. Not only were we not disappointed, we were very pleasantly surprised. Let me tell you that we were all very happy with the entire dining experience.

Our entire table raved about the tasty dishes (and we all shared so we were able to sample four delicious entrees). We started with the Mozzarella Flatbread, chicken tacos, a Martini Cobb Salad (shaken in an oversized Martini shaker), and the most delicious, tangy dinner salad topped with the most flavorful Balsamic vinaigrette dressing I have ever tasted.

The four entrees we purchased were the BBQ Braised Short Ribs, the Jumbo Scallops with Pearl Couscous, the petite filet mignon, and the smothered pork chops. I believe the most expensive entrée on the menu was $21.00. Most items were under $20.00 for very sizeable portions.

While we were stuffed from an amazing dinner, we did share one dessert at our table. I love Lemon Ice Box Pie. If you are also a fan, get in your car and head over to DISH. It was the best tasting Lemon Ice Box Pie any of us had ever tasted. The top consisted of a combination of fluffy meringue and a hint of toasted marshmallow. The plate was decorated with a slight drizzle of caramel sauce.

The ambiance was perfect. The lighting changes around 8:00 for the dinner crowd. It changes again at 11:00 to accommodate the late-night partiers, complete with a DJ. The outdoor patio is pet friendly (how European!). The service was impeccable. Our waiter, Brian B. was a delight. His food and wine recommendations were spot on. When the meals arrived, the food looked picture perfect and the wait staff and servers flowed in unison almost as if their movements had been choreographed.

We truly had a memorable evening. Not only will we recommend Dish to our friends and business associates, we will definitely return so that we can sample everything on their menu.

Great decor, mediocre food and drinks – A couple friends and I went to the first time a few days ago, and had a good time. We went later in the evening, around 10:30, when they were serving late-night choices. It's very minimalist with beautiful wall textures and lighting, a great addition to the somewhat old-looking Cedar Springs area. I ordered the chicken tacos, which were decent, yet lacking something. The drinks, however, were really disappointing. All their special drinks are $10 (somewhat overpriced) and weak. I got a Pink Taco, which was too sweet with not enough bite to be considered worth the price. My friend's drink, the Texan, was the same, too. I would love to come back to this place again, perhaps after they get feet wet in a couple of months... and consider matching the price with the quality of the product.

The Daily Candy – We love to dish — especially when chocolate is involved. So we asked chef Doug Brown of new resto/lounge Dish (opens today) to spill the beans on his warm and toasty brownies.

Smoked Pecan Brownies

Serves six

Ingredients

2-3 wood chips

2 oz. chopped pecans

4 oz. unsalted butter

4 oz. semisweet chocolate chips

2 large eggs

2 oz. pastry flour

1 oz. cocoa powder

6.5 oz. granulated sugar

1. Put wood chips on stove or grill until smoking.

2. Place pecans in a bowl, then place it in a much larger bowl. Drop the wood chips into the larger bowl, surrounding the pecan bowl. Cover immediately with foil and let smoke for five minutes.

3. Melt butter and chocolate chips over a double boiler. Slowly whisk in eggs.

4. Sift together remaining ingredients and pecans. Gently incorporate into the chocolate.

5. Pour final mixture into a cast-iron skillet (or regular ol’ pan), filling about two inches deep.

6. Bake at 325° for approximately 40 minutes.

7. Serve warm, topped with your favorite ice cream.

So there’s the scoop.
