OHH MY MMMMM!!!! SUSHI THE BEST. Overall rating:I've been to many Japanese restaurants in Chicago but booooooy... this place has gotten near the top of my list at the first attempt. Couple friends of mine and me visited Katakana on their frayday night... and were impressed. Impressed with how unique the place is, with the relaxing atmosphere, with polite and attentive staff and awesome service... and enormous Picasso reproductions on the walls! But most of all we were impressed with the food of course. Their menu attends to a most meticulous taste with huge selection of entrees, appetizers, rice and noodle dishes, rolls and combos. The makis we ordered were outstandingly presented, arrived fast. The best quality fish together with the right selection of ingredients made a perfect combination. Five stars to a new spot in the neighborhood! Great Job....I F LOVED

THIS PLACE IS AN AWESOME SURPRIZE!!!!. The restaurant itself is very new and still fairly quite but don't let that fool you - the food was AWESOME. I have since ordered delivery several times - the delivery you get is beautiful - they still think anout presentation as well as flavors. I am so impressed. It is still BYOB - so enjoy that while you can - bring your own bottle.

Morita Maki. Heard of Katakana on Metromix, decided to give it a try, was not disappointed.

The place does have something from previous Mexican atmosphere but who cares when the food is delish and the music is good and it’s BYOB.

Loved the high ceilings and huge TV screen projected on the wall, candles on the windows and all around the place in general, and multiple switching lights. Note: if someone gets annoyed by neon light, or a street light, or a candle light or any light at all-sit next to the wall, because in this place there is A LOT of light of different nature, which is awesome.

The starter, the salad and the noodle dish I had were all consistent, fresh and absolutely satisfied my hunger. Also had couple sushi pieces beautifully presented on a plate. Can’t complain either.

And the last one: you have to try Katakana Special desert. Ask a waiter before being served.

Overall, it was a fun night.

Thanx Metromix, Thanx Katakana!!!

WOW, I'm shocked....at the reviews, not the restaurant. After reading the very positive reviews of this place I almost can't believe I'm reviewing the same place. I went there once shortly after the place opened and the sushi was so-so (not nearly as good as Hachi's Kitchen just up the street), and the service was flat out terrible. But, being that it was just recently opened I figured and since I live in the area I would give it another chance and just hope that the poor service was because of the new staff. But, a couple weeks later it was actually worse. We went on a weekday and the place was dead (so there was no excuse for bad service). We sat at a table where the multi-colored strobe lights flashed on us all night. We waited 15 minutes before the waitress came to even greet us, let alone bring any water, menus, or a wine key to open our bottle of wine that we'd brought. Finally, after we had been there for over half an hour, the waitress finally took our order, and she didn't have a clue as to anything on the menu. When we asked for recommendations she couldn't give any. Then, our appetizer came out AFTER our sushi/entrees, and the waitress couldn't have cared less. And to top it all off, one of the rolls we ordered was wrong and replaced by something else, and the waitress couldn't tell us what or offer to make a change.

Bottom line....by far the worst service I've ever received in any restaurant in Chicago. And I worked in the industry for ten years, and I can say with absolute certainty, this was the worst Chicago has to offer.
