Chef Mauro is a hidden Gem – The basis of Mauro’s cuisine is “sapori veri’: true, honest, genuine flavors used masterfully to create new sensations, forms and colors. Fresh seasonal ingredients from Italian and local sources will tantalize every taste bud as Mauro allows each bite to speak for itself in a clean, straightforward flavorful vocabulary. With each endeavor Mauro continues to look for new ways to incorporate regional Italian ingredients as he redefines Italian cooking.
I really enjoyed the Risotto and Sea Bass. Both were excellent choices and are way above the best Italian restaurants in Chicago. Pelago is a must dine in when enjoying lunch or dinner while visiting the mag. mile.
Fantastic take on Italian – Pelago is small, but the space is modern, and feels open and soothing. The waitstaff are very friendly, and the service is fantastic. The waiters were very helpful, and even better, they actually know a thing or two about food, and are very well-versed in Pelago's menu.
The wine list is impressive for a restaurannt this small- there's quite a bit to choose from, and I believe that all of the wines are Italian.
Pelago hand-makes its own pastas, and offers those as well as several meat and fish selections. The Celery Root Soup is amazing, the 'Pig and Duck' and chef's specialty, 'Branzino' are both delicious.
Petite gratis desserts are sent out after the meal, and are easily among the best things I've ever put into my mouth. There's a small dessert menu as well, with various house-made sorbets and confections.
Pelago is pricey, I dropped $200 for dinner for 2, but it was well worth it. For the price, you'll get to see exactly why Pelago's chef deserves his MIchelin star.
Absolutely make plans to come to Pelago, and after that, makes plans to come back. It's one of the best ways I can think of to spend an evening in Chicago.
Bella! – This is a great place to go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The ambiance is beautiful and the food is outstanding. The pasta dishes are to die for....but even better....I loved the fillet!
Urbane, two-tiered dining room dishing up posh pasta. – Business travelers in suits sit alongside manicured Gold Coasters at this elegant bi-level hotel dining room with buttery leather seating. The restaurant serves three meals a day and shifts in mood from a sunny power breakfast-worthy spot in the morning to an all-out romantic nook when the lights go low. The emphasis is on surprisingly affordable though luxuriant takes on classic and modern Italian fare like orecchiette with fresh green tomato sauce, arugula and ricotta or sea bream with basil sauce and tomato gratin.
