Reviews for Mayes Oyster house

Seriously old school kind of place, with $1 oysters at happy "hour" from 5 until 9 pm!

Happy Hour all the time – Man, they extended the $1 oysters, how genius! Love this place. So many good places on Polk to get your seafood and drink on. This is a must stop.

Great dancin! – I actually haven't been here to eat - just been to Mayes when it turns into a club at night.

I love this place! It's fantastic for dancing (if you're in the mood for top-40s music). They have music videos to go with the DJ on all of their TV screens. The drinks aren't too pricey ($6-$7 for well drinks), and the crowd is usually pretty mixed.

They have a big area set up for a dance floor, and also have booths along the wall for those who just want to observe or visit with their friends.

It's definitely pretty loud which makes it hard if you want to have in-depth conversations.

Citysearch Editorial Review – The current incarnation of Mayes Oyster House may use the neon sign and Polk Gulch location of the 1907 original, but the Kamikaze Oyster Shooters and weekend DJs bring this clubby seafood spot into the current century. The decor is reminiscent of an upscale African hunting lodge (dark wood, giraffe print chairs) and offers a taste of what the original Mayes may have been like, when patrons were presumably downing single malts with Mark Twain, although more modern drinks--try the pear rosemary cocktail--bring it up to date. With a menu of yellowtail sashimi, traditional Provencal bouillabaisse, and Kobe sirloin topped with foie gras sauce, Mayes is a kind of progressive/traditional Japanese-French surf-and-turf, although don't let that scare if you, if possible: the food is quite good, and is so impressively presented that it seems like it should be much more expensive than the mid-priced menu claims.
