Tips for Rok Republic

December 02, 2009

Citysearch Editorial Review. No, this isn't an outpost of the premium denim brand, but this Uptown bar and grill shares a passion for the aesthetically desirable. A former bouncer from a Hollywood hot spot brought in dramatic accents such as red sofas where the pretty plop and pose. A series of striking chandeliers lights the narrow bar that leads out to a column-anchored patio with lit palm trees. Inside and out, singles sip cocktails and dine on steak and burgers while they a DJ amps up the scene.

NOT WORTH THE DRAMA!. I was disappointed with Old Republic. There are many cool bars and clubs along McKinney Ave. but this one is by far the worst. One particular waitress there should not be working in any job that is customer service oriented....and if you cross paths with her, you better run!

Don't ruin your night - skip this place. The location is great and the music is decent, I was there twice, the first time was a few months ago and I had lots of fun dancing. This last weekend we decided to go there again to celebrate my husband's b-day. It was literally THE WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE. I can clearly see that mgt has changed and the servers may have too. The waitress pushed my friends out of the way so strongly that their drinks ended up in the floor. After this, instead of apologizing and replacing our drinks, the mgr defended her and asked me for an explanation. After talking to him he disgruntlily prepared the drinks again while the waitress proceeded to make obscene gestures at me and my friends and yelling insults at us. I am sure she belongs in some sort of rehab, but the mgt allows it! It was truly pitiful. If you don't want to take my advice and decide to go there please be careful and be safe

2 drinks in 2 1/2 hours at twice the cost?. Only been there once. Terrible service, the bartenders cater to the female variety almost exclusively. I had to ask a woman to order my beer for me after standing in front of BOTH bartenders for 10 minutes, trying to get their attention while they repeatedly served the same 2 women on either side of me shots.

Also, they owe us a resplendent $21 for erroneous credit card charges.

Better off going to Humperdink's!

Best bartender ever!!. Super ambience in the new patio area. As an out-of-town guest, I truly enjoy watching the world go by from the patio. Makes smoking regulations a moot point. Bartender is too cool, best mojitos to be found. Will try the food next time.

Uptown lounge offers innovative cocktails, a tranquil patio and large-portioned tapas.. The Scene
The indoor lounge area is a study in midnight. If people eat in here, they likely read the menu with flashlights and clutch plates on their laps. Red velvet shrouds the overhang, and leather couches laze about the periphery. An outdoor patio proves much more amenable to dining, with wrought-iron tables and chairs. The back wall anchors an impressive slate waterfall, creating tranquility among the McKinney Avenue high-rises.

The Food

Republic excels at frozen cocktails. A frigid take on a cosmo enhances the original's sweetness. A frozen mojito delights with its thick sugarcane swizzle stick and invigorating lime-rum-mint iciness. American tapas are the antithesis of "super-size": two bites of textbook-perfect miso-glazed sea bass. A creamy artichoke spread, heavily doused in cream, spread easily on browned toast rounds. Tasty baked cremini mushrooms are topped with jaunty caps of feta and spinach. For dessert, try the chocolate cake.
