Chicken-Fried Oysters (crispy oysters, celery root slaw, Franks Red Hot Sauce- served in the shell)!

Akaushi Burger (house-ground, bacon, white cheddar).

One of the best burgers in the city and a steal at lunch on Tuesdays ($10)!

Sticky Toffee Pudding (pistachio ice cream and pistachio brittle) took a spot on GQ magazine's "Five Best Desserts" of the year!

Chef David Grossman offers modern, stylish, irreverently decadent food --think duck fat popcorn, Australian butter poached wagyu, and his famous sticky toffee pudding.

RUINED my Valentine's Day – Ruined my Valentine's Day...

Strong Points - None

Weak Points

My Husband called ahead of time to ask about their Valentine's Dinner menu and was informed that it would be a regular menu. We could not get a reservation until 9 pm, upon arrival the valet attendant demanded $5 dollars for us to SELF park! I could understand if this was a shared parking lot...The host sat us and we sat and sat. I saw the same 3 servers past us for about ten minutes without one greeting. Finally one came by we asked to see a regular menu and she told us, RUDELY, that there was only a prefix menu. Nothing looked too appetizing so we left. We were only there for 10 minutes and the valet attendant refused to give us our $5 dollars back. We are foodies and love to try out new restaurants this is by far the worst experience I have encountered in Houston. You would expect a new and “up and coming” restaurant to be a little more hospitable.

Will never come again.

EXCELLENT!! – We had the pleasure of trying out Branch Water with a another couple a few weeks back. When the place first opened, I did not know that they served food, so I was surprised to learn that they had a full menu. We ordered the mussels and oysters for our app. These were awesome. Our entrees included the venison, the strip steak, a chicken dish and the scallops. I tried each of these dishes and they were all cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I am not usually a game eater so I was very, pleasantly surprised with the venison! Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. As soon as leaving this place, I was already planning another visit. This is our favorite "go to" restaurant of the moment. I highly recommend this place to all my friends.

maybe it will improve – I probably would have given this place 3 stars based on my meal, but my wife's meal was terrible. She had the NY Strip--seasoned with lemon, among other things. Suffice it to say, there is a reason you have not had a lemon steak. I had the duck, and it was very salty. I also take issue with the preparation in that the fat wasn't cooked to my liking. Sometimes duck fat is particularly edible and nice, but other times it's rubbery and has an odd taste. This duck fat favored the latter. I had a pretty good soup, though. And the fried olives were fine. As for service, the waiter was very nice. We were neglected a little toward then end of the meal, but the place was fairly crowded by then. I forgive him.

Third verse, no the same as the first – I had written a previous warm review and after our experience Friday night I felt there was nothing left to do but retract it. We had reservations at 9:30. We arrived at 9:25 and the hostess with the not so mostess told us our table would be ready at 930 or SHORTLY THERE AFTER, a sign clearly.

We sat at the bar and had a drink. As time passed we watched couple after couple come in after us and get sat. It was now 10:00 and I inquired what the issue was. I was told they were a bigger party but yet a 5 top was sat at a 4 top table? Another 10 minutes passed and my wife inquired because at this time its 10:10 40 minutes after our reservations. She was told things are moving slow. I asked to speak to the manager, boy that proved to be worthless just like the loosely pink tied portly gentlemen that claimed to be such. He basically said he couldn’t make people leave. Yes we know that ASS but something that would have been appropriate would have been to send the waitress over after 20 minutes of waiting and inform us things were slow and would we like to eat at the bar.

At 10:15 the loosely pink tied jerk sat us stating I HAVE YOUR TABLE with as much grace as being on a trail ride behind a horse taking a dump. We were sat all around the tables that were sat in front of us. Waiter after waiter passed us by to no avail. As we finally stood up to leave someone asked us what we would like to drink. For some reason probably the time we stayed and ordered a bottle of wine. It took forever to get the wine and it was on the warm side. We went to order appetizers and they were out of both the mussels and oysters both of which we ordered and the ever so flighty waitress reported they were 86'ed.

The meal showed up and it was marginal at best and not like the previous two times we were there. My major issue was with the service especially the manager who I also think doubles as the wine guru that the blogs and papers keep writing about. I guarantee that if these food critics were treated the way my wife and I were they would not be getting all the press. Branch Water Taven Is Way To Big For Its Britches.

Citysearch Editorial Review – Whether upscale comfort food is simply a trend or not, Branch Water Tavern has been successful at pleasing palates with reinterpreted heart-unhealthy foods. The exposed brick walls and dim light match the restaurant's tavern mission, as do Chef David Grossman's chicken-fried oysters and elevated bacon-wrapped shrimp and grits. But where Branch Water truly stands out is its drink list. Managing partner and beverage director Evan Turner has not only curated a vast and affordable wine list, but he's also brought American whiskey to Washington Avenue. The happy hour deals are popular--expect large after-work crowds, mingling to thumping top 40s jams.

Good food – Branch Water has a nice atmosphere and a nice bar area/patio - leather booths, lots of wood. The food was all-around very good, with only a few missteps. The green salad was very bland, fried oysters tasty, duck confit risotto was a unique dish with great flavor, steak was served cold, and the sticky toffee for dessert was wonderful. I will go back - this restaurant has potential to be great but perhaps needs more time to be consistent.
