Sew Crafty is sew awesome! – I adore this place. I have taken no less than 3 classes from here (intro sewing, knitting 102, and intro needle felting) and each of them were very well taught. The atmosphere and owner and staff are just glorious. I can't wait to take more classes there.
Get in touch with your creative self! – Classes I've attended: Sewing bootcamp, zipper class, Gumdrop pillow, knitting 101....I've enjoyed them all & met some wonderful people along the way! I learned to sew as a child, but hadn't done anything in many years...getting reconnected to my creative side has really been refreshing! This weekend, I "graduated" into making a duvet cover (with the help of a friend with more experience than me). I'd never have had the confidence to do that without having taken these classes! I love this place.....it's cheerful & bright, but then that seems to reflect Sarah's personality.
As far as the negative review regarding parking....that's the way things are on 19th street in the Heights, not something unique to Sew Crafty. Anytime I visit the Heights, I always manage to find parking. Just a short walk away is a Baptist church that welcomes anyone to park in their lot...nice! I feel sorry for the person who decided not to attend class due to a little issue like that, because they really missed out on some joy!!
Thanks Miki! And way to go on all your sewing progress!!
Where I discovered a love for sewing... – My husband bought me a sewing machine because I wanted to incorporate stitching into my paper crafting/card making. But I had no idea how to thread or operate the machine. So he signed me up for a 4-week (1 day/week) Sewing Bootcamp class. Sew Crafty has very easy to use sewing machines for those who don't have one, but they also let you bring your own if you want to learn how to use your own machine. By the end of the first 2-hour session, I had not only learned how to thread and operate my machine, but we had made a pillow case! We made a simple tote bag and pajama pants during subsequent classes. The instructor (Sarah) was so patient, knowledgeable, and upbeat. I learned enough of the basics to go on and sew more challenging things.
I highly recommend the Sewing Bootcamp class for anyone who wants to learn how to sew. I hope to take other classes at Sew Crafty in the future!
Fantastic! Always awesome to hear that we have another sewing convert - thank you for supporting us!

Love it! – I went to my first sweing class at Sew Crafty shortly after they opened and loved it! I was concerned because I am not very sewing crafty and thought I would need a lot of special attention...I felt right at home the moment I walked in and the instructor (Sarah) was patient and clear...I was able to complete the project and learn a lot in the process. The times I did need some extra help Sarah was right there showing me what to do! I loved my experience and have recommended Sew Crafty to all of my friends! I can't wait to take another class and walk out with a handmade "something," its a great feeling!
W00t! So glad you enjoyed your class - yay!
Awesome costumer service!! – I took Knitting 101 with Melissa Powers. OMG! Can I say Godsend! She truly was fabulous, patient and made me feel right at home.
I've also taken Sewing 101 (we made stockings) with Abby Wright. Abby was also a fabulous instructor, completely patient and gave each us her undivided attention. I have fallen in love wit sewing! I can't wait to take more classes here!!
Here's some history as to why I took Sewing and why their customer service rocks!!!----
I Went back for Knitting 102, waited for about 2 minutes and then was informed that my instructor had an emergency and couldn't make it.They suggested I call back sometime during the week to reschedule. Well, since I was already there, I asked if there were any other beginner classes with available seats starting soon. There was! It was a Sewing 101 (or Beginner), they were making stockings! I asked the girls if they could charge me the balance so I could take it, she said "don't worry about it". I thought she would just let me use my credit towards the sewing class. Well, nope, one of the front desk girls caught me on my way out and gave me a full refund, said that the sewing class was on them and to make sure I call back for the rescheduling of Knitting 102. I was completely in shock and super exited, but at the same time I didn't want to take advantage, so I offered once again to pay, she no. (Hope I don't get anyone in trouble.) I looove this place and have recommended it to many, many friends. I have yet to reschedule my Knitting 102, but will soon. I will forever love this place and can not wait until my next class.
Oh, as for parking... I've yet to have a problem...(knock on wood).
Yay! We are so glad we could resolve that issue for you and get you in a class you enjoyed! Abby and Melissa are the best!
The Craftyest Place In Town – I love Sew Crafty! This once little crafting hut now has a new location on 19th street with lots of room to spare. Have time for a class? Call in a book a class today. If you only have a few minutes, they have great drop in craft classes for anytime of the day!
I have been involved with Sew Crafty for almost 2 years now and I love every minute of it.
Thanks Amie - viva Houston craft!
Can't park – I had intended to go to a Saturday class at Sew Crafty, but I could not find a place to park. I circled the block and surrounding areas, still could not find a place to park. If someone has a retail/walk-in business, they need to ensure there is ample free parking available close-by. As long as they're at the present location, I won't try again.
Hi there! We're so sorry you couldn't find a place to park - the Heights is very busy during the holidays and sometimes that can be a challenge. For future Heights outings, there are a few different parking lots that are free for 19th st shoppers - one is on 19th next to the Sandollar (behind the Baptist Church). Happy holidays!
