Skip the BBC – Since reading a lot of hype about BBC, a few of us from the office decided to check it out last night. What a waste of time and money. Since it is located in the Bonaventure Hotel, finding and getting to the 4th floor is half the battle, (the elvevators do not stop at the 4th floor). Once there, the atmosphere is zero, service is so-so, and mixed drinks are blah and over priced. As far as the food is concerned, you'd get a better meal on any coach class airline. In fact, the entire place seemed as if we were in one of those cheezy airport bar/pubs in the midwest. After the huge dissapointment we walked a few blocks to the usual place and had a great meal and excellent sangria for far less $. The lesson here is that will never go back to the BBC.
Great service, excellent food and fun atmosphere. – Great food, great atmosphere, hot staff and amazing service! The BBC is a cool place to hang with friends after work either inside or out on "The Patio". They brew their own beer and their Pale Ale is top notch. (The Bartender that served it to me was not too shabby either : ) ) They also have a full bar....I really love The Watermelon Martini and The Oasis Margarita. As far as the food goes they have a super good burger and I always get the Honey Pepper Encrusted Salmon. So good! Highly recommended fun place to hang.
poor service with mediocre food and drinks... – i've been looking for some latenight spots in downtown for a good drink with reasonably priced foods. having read the reviews, i decided to go check it out with a friend. when we got there, no one greeted us for a few mins so we decided to go and sit at the bar. at the bar, we were not acknowledged for 5 mins, and the place was only about half full. we noticed that the manager and the "bartenders" (i only used quotations because we couldnt decide if they were just servers who poured drinks for their own tables) were having a these endless conversations while ignoring those seated at the bar. then as i finally got the attention of one of the people behind the bar, another patron came up to complain to the manager who was behind the bar at the moment. the odd thing was that this lady who was complaining about the lack of service to the manager was suddenly confronted by the server/bartender who had served her. instead of asking her server to step away while she had the conversation with the patron, the manager allowed the server to stand there and argue with the customer who appeared to have very valid complaints (slow service, wrong / missing items on bill, argumentative server). this all the while another server was seated at the bar folding linens while watching a game on the tv.
having worked in food service when i was younger, this all points to poor management that i allowing her crew to get lazy and belligerent.
but having said that, after all that one of the servers realized that we were sitting there for close to 15 mins by that time without a drink or even a menu, and he proceeded to offer some service at that point on. overall, i would say that the food was average, the service (barring our final server) was poor and if i was the owner of this establishment, i would seriously reconsider the manager on that particular shift.
Friendly atmosphere – I really liked my experience here. The staff was friendly and service was prompt. The menu had a wider variety of food on it than I was expecting from a brewpub type restaurant. I had the ahi tuna sandwich and it was great. It was really juicy and I'd definitely have it again on my next visit, and would reccomend it to people. The outside section of the restaurant wasn't open when I went because of the weather. Also of note were the beers on offer. They have a taster option on the menu where you can try a bit of their beers, and while I liked some more than others, they were all good quality. All in all I'd certainly reccomend this restaurant. Our dinner there was very well done.
fabulous downtown pub!!! – fabulous beer, nice and attentive staff, gets crowed on Fridays, no better place downtown to get a burger (and they are available until 1 a.m.), and they have a great patio for outdoor dining; their happy hour menu can't be beat! It is also available for private parties.
Delicious cheap eats and friendly service – I walked in and the cute hostess greeted with a smile. My server was friendly. The food was out fast and was delicious. I had the Lamb Chop Salad. It surpassed my expectations. I was expecting typical American style food but was pleasantly surprised with the diverse menu. I will definitely come back.
Upscale microbrewery fits in amid the towering splendor of downtown. – In Short
Nestled inside the instantly recognizable Bonaventure Hotel, this bar and restaurant offers a relaxed ambience, perfect for either a raucous happy hour or a romantic first date. The indoor bar and dining area is sparsely decorated with caramel-colored wood accents and black-and-white photography, creating a breezy California-cool feel. The real draw, however, is a sprawling outdoor seating area that occasionally hosts live music. As the sun sets and night falls, take in the spectacular view of the high-rise towers that encircle this deck area.
Cool Crowd, Great View – This place is pretty cool. The bartenders are cute and the staff is super friendly. It's one of those places where they know the regulars names and even if you're not and you come in more than once in a week they remember what you're drinking.
The food is pretty good, it's not spectacular, but the salmon I had melted in my mouth. And the Tex-Mex eggroll was damn tasty.
The patio they have has a cool and relaxing view of the buildings above. I went to an event for work and the beer garden it so beautiful at night.
Slow Service, So-So Food – We waited at the entrance for 10 minutes without being greeted, so we ended up seating ourselves. Maybe they were short-staffed, but service was really slow when I went (which was a Saturday night--and mind you, the restaurant was pretty empty).
Also, the food is not worth what you pay. I could get the same kind of food but with bigger portions at TGI Friday's for much less.
This was my second time here, and I don't know if I'll go back after this. I'd rather go to Bona Vista.
Downtown BBC, the place to be! – The signature brews are great, for your first trip I reccommend the sampler. The happy hour menu is pretty good, great spot for an after work burger & beer. The patio can't be beat when it's nice outside. The only bummer is the parking, but that's remedies by parking in the Bonaventure and having the BBC validate so that you only pay $5.
