Coming across a great lunch spot, that is not jam packed at 12:00 p.m. on a weekday, comes a dime a dozen. Well, Bistro Alex is a great option and there is never a wait. Your typical lunch needs are met by way of soups, chopped salads, burgers and flatbread pizzas. But, they also catch you off guard and throw in items like their Corn Bisque, Salmon BLT, and the famous Brennan's Turtle Soup. For those that are not aware, Bistro Alex is a member of the Brennan’s family of restaurants.

Upscale New Orleans style food that is sure to satisfy. Elegant bar as well. Westside dwellers get Brennan’s style food close to their 'hood.

This modern, elegant restaurant inside the Hotel Sorella serves an upscale taste of New Orleans. Get the Duck Waffle. Don't miss it or you'll be sorry!

Experiment Gone Wrong – We chose Bistro Alex based on online menu, but the restaurant menu was very different. Not one of the items we sought was on the menu. The actual menu was dramatically smaller than the online version- big warning. The few items we sought on the online menu were neither alcohol drenched nor Cajun. Restauranteurs typically do not consider the desires of people who do not drink. Big flashing red lights, but we decided to stay, in the spirit of culinary experimentation.

The pumpkin soup was little more than mundane, but passable. The pork belly was good if you could position a microscope over it to find it, but the underlying mac-and-cheese was inferior to box brand from a grocery store. Her salmon was delivered with surface seasoning that she liked, but inside it was frankly raw as in sushi. We took the step rare (no pun intended) for us to send the salmon back for adequate heating with detailed requests that it be cooked more. The meal came to a halt as we waited. The salmon was no more perceptibly cooked than the first time. Again the meal came to a halt as we waited.

After waiting, Manager B revealed they had not been cooking anything. In frustration, I requested a filet for my sweetheart, and the meal again came to a halt.

I tried my orange "sorbet" that turned out to be an orange flavored snow cone so icy it was if it had been left in a freezer to form large hard, tasteless ice chunks, not sorbet. The orange flavor was tasty, but the texture was terrible.

I thought the disaster this meal was had finally ended. However, my sweetheart had a sleepless night with peptic distress, clearly irritated by something she ate. I suspect her salmon, but unfortunately there are several alternatives to consider.

If we have had a worse culinary experience, we cannot remember it. Don’t believe every online menu you see.

New favorite! – I am in love with the escargot appetizer. I order it as my entree and cannot stop asking for more bread to plunge into all the different exotic butters they cook it in. AMAZING (this is coming from someone who has always loved escargot and has eaten it several times in Paris, but B.Alex's escargot creation is many cuts above the usual).

The "flatbreads" (thin crispy and served pizza-style) are delish. Goat cheese grits are to die for. Filet of beef is melt in your mouth tender AND flavorful (I am a fan of fatty steak for its flavor, yet was blown away by this non-fatty, super soft Filet...no idea how they did it!). Duck was PERFECTLY cooked (and it's really hard to get duck right, which is why most restaurants steer clear). Salads are incredible (and I'm not even a fan of entree salads!). Desserts are OMG (bread pudding: fantastic, teacakes: whoever thought teacakes could be rich and decadent?, choco souffle: light and balanced choco flavor, not overdone!).

I really just love this place. Plus it's beautiful inside and the staff is always so friendly and eager to please you (this includes the managers and even the Chef). Again, I really just love this place!!!
