My new favorite BBQ place! – Texas is supposed to be famous for their bbq, but until today, I didn't know what the hype was all about.

Spring Creek Barbeque is one of those places that gets everything right. From the minute you enter the door, there is a special something in the air. The place is usually packed and you will most probably be standing in line, waiting to get near the the mouthwatering display of brisket, sausage and other bbq items proudly displayed under a bright light on a carving counter and sliced right in front of your eyes.

Single plates are a $8.75- $10.95 (for a combo), and if you eat in, you can have as many sides as you want (choice of beans, corn on the cob, green beans, potato salad, cole slaw, mac n cheese). When you place your order, the head guy will say something, and the rest of the guys behind the counter break into an army-like chant. I couldn't figure out what they were saying, but they were in perfect unison, and it made the entire experience festive and fun. "Do you always sing the same stuff?" I asked one of the guys, "Only if everyone orders the same items," he replied. The lady next to me laughed and said she couldn't ever make out what they were singing, but wasn't it great? Oh yes, it was.

Even with my plate piled full of sides, I was sorely tempted to add a side of fried okra, or the banana pudding, very enticingly displayed in a traditional tall fountain glass, or one of their generous pie slices to my order. I resisted, but then I was hit with another strong enticement: the Blue Bell ice cream counter, where you could get a dish of Blue Bell ice cream by itself, or with a homemade peach cobbler for just $3.25. (Note to self, come back for the peach cobbler and Blue Bell ice cream!)

As we dug into the delicious bbq (I had the brisket and ribs, my husband had the brisket and spicy sausage), accented by rich, slightly sweet, smoky house made bbq sauce, a cheerful young lady came around offering everyone fresh hot rolls, the perfect accompaniment to a perfect meal. When I went to get a few more side dishes, I was offered a brand new plate, and the young man told me “We appreciate you coming in today.” Aww, really? I thought. That's so sweet. It's the little things that make all the difference. You could tell that the employees loved working there and that people loved eating there. I even saw a little girl bopping her head to the country music while popping a french fry in her mouth.

“I like the fact that they exceeded my expectations,” my husband said as we were getting ready to leave. I agree. From the cheerful environment with checkered tablecloths and country music playing in the background, to the cheerful chanting by the guys behind the counter, to the fresh rolls that were offered not once but twice during our meal, to the super tasty and fresh bbq, Spring Creek totally exceeded expectations. I’ve finally found a place I can bring friends to when they want some good ole Texas bbq.

Spring Creek Barbeque – My husband & I went 1st and last time a month ago to this restaurant after church. It was over-priced, not that great a food, and the portions were small. I'm not a big eater, so that's saying something for me! I'm amazed to see the positive posts here, I suppose because I'm not new to TX BBQ, and this place is NOT the place for a first-timer. If you've never had TX BBQ, then maybe you'll be fine with it. I ordered pulled pork, and they almost messed up and put some of the meat on my plate! My advice? Go Elsewhere!
