Tips for El Mestizo

Seems pretty authentic to me. I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but Mestizo's food seems very authentic to me. It is not the typical tex-mex style that other popular places serve (nothing wrong with tex-mex, I love it too).

The queso fundido is really good as is the stuffed pepper. I would love to go back again soon to try other items on the menu too.

Lovely people make lovely food. The risk is too many of you will go there, but here goes: authentic and tasty and inexpensive and friendly wait staff. I had Huevos Rancheros for breakfast yesterday. Been on the hunt for this kind of place in Seattle. The hunt is officially over. No reason to go anywhere else!

First Hill treat. Finally, Mexican food as I loved as a kid when we visited Mexico. This is a must try!

Citysearch Editorial Review. Modern minimalist décor highlighted by pops of colorful artwork define this First Hill eatery across from Swedish Medical Center. Mexican music plays in the background and the smell of grilled meat wafts through the restaurant from the open kitchen--sit at the bar and watch as your food is prepared. Visited by a mix of nearby university students, young professionals and families, the restaurant's menu is full of upscale items at reasonable prices. El Mestizo claims to put the “original” back in Mexican food, and it’s true--you won’t find Tex-Mex fare here. The most popular dishes are cochinita pibil, shredded pork marinated overnight in citrus and baked in banana leaves (order it with corn tortillas to make your own tacos) and alambres, sliced beef pan-seared with bacon, bell peppers, onions and cheese, served with tortillas.

great for lunch!. el mestizo has quickly become my go-to spot for an extremely delicious and super quick lunch. i can be in and out in under 30 minutes, which is quite a feat at a sit down restaurant. their speed doesn't take away from the quality. you'll always have a super fresh, flavorful meal at el mestizo.
