Great downtown salon – I went here yesterday for a complimentary color service that I received. Upon entering the salon I was really surprised it was a Vidal Sassoon salon. It is just plain ugly and outdated. But then again, I guess you can’t judge a book by its cover. The service was friendly when I arrived and I didn’t have to wait long for Jennifer to be ready to see me. She was very friendly and really listened to what I wanted. She was honest that se couldn’t get my hair color 100% as blonde as the photo I brought in with just highlights. I appreciate the honesty, because I hate when people tell you they can give you the world and don’t deliver. She did a really amazing job. My highlights look really natural, which I love. Melissa blow dried and styled my hair. She was really friendly and I can’t wait to go back to get my hair cut by her. I give it 4 stars because if I didn’t have a complimentary service I NEVER would be able to afford going here. Color runs $200+ and hair cuts $130. WOW expensive.

Citysearch Editorial Review – In a city full of salons, Sassoon stylists set the standard. The company trains some of the world's most elite hair stylists at this San Francisco location, and their services are priced according to their level of experience. For those looking for a Sassoon cut on a budget, apprentice (but not inexperienced) stylists in the salon offer cuts at steeply discounted rates, while those who volunteer as hair models in the adjoining Sassoon academy will pay even less. Anyone one with the means to do so, however, should go with one of the more seasoned stylists, whose attention to detail, and to their clients needs, is a cut above most any salon in the city.

not impressed – We discussed the cut first, didn't turn out anything like she discribed. This was the salon director! She was distracted the whole time while cutting my hair, even arguing with an employee about when she was leaving. Would never return to vidal again. Horrible.

Avoid Avoid and well Avoid – Terrible place to get your hair colored or cut!! Total and complete waste of money. You are better off doing it yourself !

They talk your brains off and fail to pay attention to their work. As soon as they are done, they will rush you out of there!!

Do not be fooled by the Academy label....seems to me their stylists were rushed out of school.

So overrated! – For a big name like that, the salon on Sutter didn?t live up to it at the very least.

I paid $80 for the simplest cut ever, only to realize the ?stylist? didn?t touch my layers, and only took off 2? of my ends.

OK, but I have layers, which need to be touched up, right? She cut it way shorter than I wanted? and did I mention ? unevenly?

The clerk at the reception made me pay ahead, saying they were closing soon, which made me feel rushed.

I got some coupons for discount services, but since I am not planning to go back there, I?ll give them to you if you still want to check it out.

Feel free to email me :)

A Cut Above – 1. I'm going to have a fabulous Christmas - or at least look fabulous.

2. I had a modern, sophisticated haircut from a senior stylist named Philip Thomsett. A dapper gentleman - quiet, attentive and focused.

3. Here's a visual: think Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde but a smidgeon longer and lifted in the back.

4. Expensive ($105) - so what? He took almost two hours cutting my hair - making sure I was pleased.

5. The salon was clean. I don't know if its a hair academy, if it is, hopefully he's teaching. All the women had chic, futuristic haircuts (no horsehair).

5. I recommend asking for a senior stylist. Why risk getting a bad haircut? Unless you are fresh faced and can pull anything off. Well maybe with expensive shoes, of course.

6. Be proactive - bring mag photos. Look closely at the cut BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Take a look behind your head, mirror in hand.

7. Philip shaped my hair exactly the way I asked him to - what more can you ask for. :)

Poor Service, average cuts, very high prices – I use to go to this salon years ago (1990's) and returned recently to check it out again. I understand it is now owned by the same company which also owns Supercuts, which speaks for itself. The stylist was 20 minutes late. He then asked what I wanted done. When I asked for suggestions, he said he was going on break and would return when I made up my mind what I wanted. When he returned, he insisted I pay in advance because the cashier wanted to close out the register early. If I hadn't already paid I would have walked out, wet hair and all. The cut was ok, but not great (think Supercut quality). The price was insane for the quality of the cut and experience. The store's manager was in earshot of all of this and did nothing. Save your money and try somewhere else. This is simply a training school for new stylists, many of whom are clearly not ready for paying customers.

Expensive, but you may get it just right – I had a great haircut here by a senior stylist, and I think this is the way to go, if you're a newcomer to the salon, and have ample budget. I tried a junior stylist as well, to try to cut costs, and I wasn't happy at all - I think she had recently finished the Vidal Sassoon School - not that that necessarily means a person can't cut yet! Anyway - it's expensive, and I feel like you should get a great cut with a junior or senior stylist. I'm looking elsewhere, but if you find the right person here, you may just luck out. I would get a recommendation from someone who loves them.

It's not vidal sassoon from LONDON – I was a Tourist and I needed to do my hair, color, HL and cut and I told me , let's go to the best. But unfortunately, it was the worst.

they called it "academy" but all stylists should go back to school.

Those stylists thought, they were god, but they just work here, because of the famous name of the salon.

Trust me, sasson in SF is horrible, go to london it's the true one hair salon..

sorry but this is the real world !!!!
