Good food and goodlooking folks – I stopped by with some friends when we walked along melrose last week. The food is really good and the place is Mexican chic funky. Lots of cool touches that make it a fun place. The best part was more than one attractive girl walked in while we were there. I don't know if it's the nail salon next door or what.
Citysearch Editorial Review – This small Mexican restaurant serves up tasty tortas to a (mostly) lunchtime crowd of pedestrians strolling Melrose Avenue shops. The bright, airy space will appeal to fans of chains such as Baja Fresh, but the food here has a lot more soul. The Mexico-born, Denver-raised owners take pride in their diablo shimp, pollo lucha and classic carne asada tortas. Sides are are a steal at just $1.75 for generous portions of adaptations of owner Fernando Lozano's family recipes (we like his cilantro rice, served with a hint of lime). Sure, Santito's has the obligatory multitude of tacos on the menu, but the tortas are the move for a nice to-go (or quick dine-in) meal on Melrose. All tortas, including their fantastic Rudo Mole (shredded chicken breast with Santito's Oaxacan mole, cream onion and cotija cheese) are served on authentic Mexican oblong bread, and all can (and should) be paired with a side of fluffy banderita fries. Bonus points for the hip Mexican wresting-inspired logo that graces the front of the restaurant and even the bathroom doors.
