Pan-Asian grocery store w/ a butcher shop, live fish counter, bakery & food court. Some of the best prices in town on meat.

Best new Asian market in town! – If you've been to California or are an ex-resident like me, you know that Ranch 99 Market is the premier grocery chain in SoCal. I've driven by it a few times on I-10 on my way home, but never stopped by thinking it couldn't top the many grocery stores in my Asian 'hood on Bellaire. Well, I was wrong.

Ranch 99 is simply the best of the best. Immaculate, well stocked, well organized, with some of the freshest produce available at an Asian market, I was in grocery market paradise the minute I stepped through the sliding doors. If you haven't been there, you need to visit. The market is like a mini indoor Asian mall complete with small little shops and its own food court. You actually don't see the market right away because you are greeted by several vendors selling wares such as mobile phones and japanese and korean cosmetics when you first step through the doors. A little bakery just outside the market offered a smorgasbord of delightful treats and was packed to the hilt with people swarming about the pick-it-yourself baked goodies like sponge cake and egg custard tarts - and with coffee at just 99cents you can't really NOT stop by and get a snack.

Now to the grocery store: the floors are gleaming polished concrete in a warm orange/brown hue. It's more like Ranch 99 Universe than Ranch 99 market - with its own section of Asian beauty products, drinks, canned items, dry noodles and sundry, candy, coffee, and so much more...Then there is the meat/seafood section, one of the cleanest I've ever been to. In fact, you could barely detect the smell of the fresh fish because there were glass window shields separating most of the seafood from the buyers. The produce section was also one of the cleanest and neatly organized I've ever seen offered. The only other comparison in Houston is the Viet Hoa supermarket, my normal Asian market of choice, but in comparison, Viet Hoa pales in the shadow of Ranch 99's grander, larger vision.

As you exit the grocery store, veer a bit to the left and the food court beckons with sushi, dim sum, chinese food, and korean food. I couldn't resist and had the california roll for 2.99 and some dim sum (siu mai) for $1.49.

Ranch 99 is my new favorite Asian grocery store in Houston. It reinvents the Mitsuwa markeplace in Orange County California with bigger and better. I'm definitely going to be making the trek here on a regular basis.

The Best Place in the Houston area to find ALL of your Asian Cooking needs. It reminds me of being in Shanghai, but so much more in one place. LOVE IT!!! I will be going back to do some serious shopping. I miss Shanghai and this is the closest thing to being there. HIGHLY recommend this for ALL Asian cooks.

Terrible meat (beef). I picked up 5 rib eyes that looked great but turned out to be horrible. The meat was tough as hell.

Great place for certain fruits, but I will never pick up beef from there again.

Patchwork quilt of grocery store & small eateries – Ranch 99 is a "re-purposed" Fiesta store that looks totally different inside now. It has some small restaurants inside, each with the menu posted. It's basically "cafeteria" style food service. It's kind of crowded in the store, parking is dicey. The prices are good, the food interesting.

Citysearch Editorial Review – Expect low prices and many world cuisines at this Asian supermarket chain from L.A.
