Cool Vibe, So-So Drinks – Dickson Wine Bar looks like a place you'd easily find in a trendy neighborhood in New York City, but happens to be on the far, less popular end of U St. It's got a great vibe, with dim, candle lighting and soft indie music, a kitchen viewable from the lower level and a fairly open upper level. What's cool about Dickson is that everything is biodynamic or organic, from the wine to the food. Not that something is good only because it's earth friendly. But I wasn't impressed with their cocktails, which mix liquor with wine (i.e. their verison of a Mojito, which has rum, lime, mint, agave...and gruet). Maybe I have a sensitive stomach, but wine and liquor don't mix. I felt a bit queasy and had a headache after drinking the mojito. The taste was off-putting as well. Definitely go for their food and wine selection, but be careful of the cocktails.

Citysearch Editorial Review – This three-level wine bar in the U Street Dickson building manages to please foodies, winos and environmentalists all at once. Nearly every aspect of the space was made with sustainable goods. That long community-style table? Made of reclaimed wood. Those decorative, jewel-toned bottles lining the walls? Definitely recycled. The menu, from the chef behind the popular restaurant and bar Marvin just down the street, also gets in on the act; everything from the vino to the cheese and flatbreads is organic or biodynamic, and it represents locales all over the globe. With the friendly wait staff and dim candlelight bouncing off cool blue walls, it's a good bet for a casual date or girls' night out.
