Not for Brunch!!! – If you like being mistreated by snooty servers and being made to wait a half hour minimum for a cup of coffee, then this is the place for you. We had a guest over that was leaving that afternoon and we wanted to take them for a nice Sunday brunch before they left. We called at 9:30 AM and we were told that brunch started at 11:30---so we made a reservation for 4. We got there a few minutes early and were told to wait downstairs. We finally went up and were a bit surprised to see that they were already serving people. They had no record of our reservation but seated us anyway----at a table far from the view despite the many window tables available. We advised our server that we were in a bit of a rush and she told us no problem if we knew what we wanted. We had quite a time flagging her down again as we decided very quickly what to eat for brunch. We also asked to start with some coffee and their $14 danish basket. After waiting 20 minutes we still had not gotten anything. After 25 minutes we flagged down the maitre d' who told us we would get the coffee immediately. In the meantime, juices and drinks were being brought out for a table that came in well after us and our waitress would quickly disappear without coming over to us. The maitre d' finally got us our danish basket which consisted of 4 tiny, cold, not fresh pastries----and still no coffee. I am very sympathetic to servers that are rushed and have many tables to take care of----our waitress had us and one other table. She never came over, never apologized and was actually angry when after almost 40 minutes of waiting we got up and left after not even getting a cup of coffee!!!! There are some wonderful places to go in the city for brunch-----this is NOT one of them!
Leave the City... A Top the Roof - at The Upstairs – This gorgeous venue, incorporates a high end design, sophisticated decor, unparalleled views, with both an indoor and outdoor terrace for true pleasure and a enjoyment amidst the hustle and bustle of NYC.
The vibe is great, and you feel as if you are on vacation - without leaving the city. It's perfect to go with friends and chill or out with a large group for a birthday party.
Great Food.. Great Views... Great Decor... Great Spot to go to..... Definitely Recommend
Deliciously Delicious – I was in town for a meeting and was put up at the Kimberly Hotel. After an uneventful night, I thought I'd pop to the hotel bar Upstairs.
I was greeted by the hostess who was very friendly and attractive and i was seated by a window looking to the Chrysler Building. What a view! It's worth going just for the view alone! Then came the drink menu. DELICIOUS! After having my fair share, I ordered a few nibbles, and they complimented the drinks perfectly.
All in all a great experience, and I hope to find myself at the Kimberly soon just so I can pop "Upstairs" again.
Great Place with Gorgeous View of NYC Skyline – My wife and I recently visited Upstairs and we loved the rooftop! What an incredibly beautiful view! The food was terrific and the prices were reasonable. We liked it so much that we went back the next night to have some drinks at the bar. The staff was extremely accommodating and very friendly. I really liked the décor of the place. This is a place I would definitely recommend going. I just made reservations for my wife and I to have dinner on Valentines Day at Upstairs because of the gorgeous view of the NYC skyline and our previous wonderful experiences at the rooftop bar/restaurant.
Classy and Comfortable – This is by far my favorite rooftop and in my opinion the best kept secret in New York. Very classy and comfortable, a great place to go after work, on a date, or with some friends. They have a under21 policy so no children or tiny boppers :)
Their prices are fair for Midtown Manhattan Rooftop. $8 for a beer, and $16 for a cocktail isn't unheard of. If you are in the mood for a cocktail I would definitely suggest the Rum Service or the Midtown, they are both far from your typical girly cocktail and have gret balance of flavors.
The staff is super attentive and friendly! The place is Beautiful and the View is to die for.
SAVE YOUR MONEY – Though I don't usually like to write negative things about a new place, my experience was so bad, there could be no logical excuse except for bad management and a blatant lack of respect for their customer and the service industry in general.
If I'm going to pay $16 for a cocktail, I expect a quality drink and quality service...this place seems to be run by frat boys and managemnt has their head up their a#s. It's a shame because the place is great looking (once you get past the Adam's Family-inspired lobby).
Save your money and go elsewhere! Wow!
Citysearch Editorial Review – Located atop the Kimberly Hotel, this outdoor oasis is open year-round, thanks to a retractable roof. On colder days, a heated floor protects against chills, while in the warmer weather, guests can catch some rays on the lounge chairs on the outdoor patio or seated at one of the black leather cafe tables located in the main bar area. The decor is sophisticated yet gothic. Lush greens cascade down bronze panels, framing breathtaking views of the Chrysler Building and midtown Manhattan. An express elevator bypasses guest floors, leading partiers straight up to the roof.
