Fishbones Restaurant – I have lived in Orlando for 20 years now. In the past this was one of the better seafood restaurants in the city.
My past couple of experiences have not been very good however. The service was barely average. The food was over cooked. The management was invisible. A pocket knife somehow disappeared after I left my car in valet.
You almost have to valet here because they block off most of the lot. I hope things change because it was one of my better spots to take guests. I tried to fill them in directly but you cannot leave comments on their web site......
awful – We stopped here hoping to find better than average cuisine and found the food to be almost inedible, dripping with butter and salted to extreme. No apologies from either the server or management. If you are hungry for fish, go to Capt Dee's: you won't be sorry.
By the way, they did wish us a "have a nice day" on our exit.
OK but overpriced – Reasonable food and service but far overpriced for what you get. No prices for the fish on the menu, $39 for Sea Bass - more than the steak. Good food but not $39 worth. Better restaurants for the price around.
Greatly disappointed – It was my last night in Orlando on a business trip. My colleague and I (a fellow foodie) wanted something delicious. We read on Orlando Magazine that Fish Bones was rated high for seafood. Not that many people in the restaurant. Not sure if that was good or bad. After the waiter highly recommended a sea bass dish...indicating that I would practically lick my plate. Despite the high cost (told due to low supply), I ordered the dish. Not only was I not licking the plate, I didn't bother finishing my plate. Other parties at my table weren’t impressed either. Reflecting back I should have returned my plate. Oh well...live and learn.
unbelievably good! – I live in Tampa and there are many great seafood places here but my husband and I actually make the drive to Orlando to go here every couple months. The service has always been great, the salad that comes with your meal and the salmon on the wood fired grill with the dill sauce is the best I've ever had. We've also had the prime rib and the mixed grill with the mahi, salmon, and shrimp, all of it has been great. I read some of the bad reviews that are older (2007) and I would say that things have definitley changed. We've been going here for the past couple years and never had a problem, you won't be disapointed.
Horrible service – I don?t write reviews, but I was looking for a recommended seafood restaurant and saw the fish bones reviews. It has been a while since I have eaten at the restaurant, and could not help communicating my experience. The service I had was terrible and the food was marginal.
I write this in the hopes someone else will not waste their time and money like I did...The owners need to get a grip on this place.
EXCELLENT SERVICE AND FOOD – The experience was awesome. We had the stone crabs for appetizers and a delicious blackened Seabass for my entree. My wife had fried shrimp breaded in saltine crackers. She loved it. When the manager stopped by He thankedus for our business. I thanked him for such a nice evening.
Fish Boned! – My wife and I visited Fish Bones on May 28, 2007. While the restaurant looked good from the outside, what we found was just another Orlando tourist trap.
We found Fish Bones just driving by on Sand Lake road. We were hungry, and there was no wait so we decided to try it. Although the inside of the restaurant was plastered with awards, I noticed that most of the grantors were names that I didn't recognize. Nevertheless the decor was sufficiently elegant for a restaurant.
My first clue of trouble was that much of their rather sparse menu was 'market price'. Now I can understand that the cost of some items such as lobster tail, crab legs, and game fish may fluctuate; labeling more mundane items such as mahi mahi is just ridiculous.
Our waiter was a bit inept, but this being the holiday weekend I expect they were a little short handed. Our dirty dishes sat on the tabIe along with our empty glasses. I ordered the mixed grill entree for about $25, which came with a sort of shrimp and scallop scampi along with one small piece each of salmon, and possibly grouper. While the ingredients were of fair quality the food was bland, and greasy. Really, it had almost no flavor at all. It was a shame that reasonably good seafood would be served in this manner. A bit of seasoning would have made all the difference.
My wife ordered the stuffed shrimp for about $20 which was marginally better. At least it was kinda crispy, and had some flavor. Her entree also came with orzo which sadly, was the highlight of the meal.
I don't think we will be going back. While this is not the worst restaurant in Orlando, there are far better choices in the same category, and price range -many of them nearby.
I think I just ate a meal out of the sewer. horrible horrible horrible – My very good friend and I have been Florida residents for a very long time, we enjoy a good meal together Now and Again.
We were excited to try Fish Bones, Our initial impression of the place was pretty good, Seated promptly, greeted by several of the staff, Drinks were fast and server SEEMED nice. THEN our salads came, they tasted like a McDonald's salad that had been sitting in my refrigerator for over a week. Next up was our Stuffed shrimp and Mixed grill ( Mahi Mahi, Salmon and Shrimp and scallop scampi) Needless to say the food was terrible UNDERCOOKED, TASTELESS, SLIMY. When I let the server know of the situation She proceeded to give me a lesson in dinning. she said " I asked you if you liked it, you should have told me then, for future reference you need to tell the server right away so the chef can make it better." said this all with a attitude. PENNY is the worst server I have ever had. Not to mention unprofessional. This stupid girl had pig tails like she was 5 years old. How dare she talk to me like that. I have never been so embarrassed by a minimum wage loser. So, I will not be returning to FISH BONES EVER AGAIN. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not what it's cracked up to be – My wife and I visited Fishbones on our recent visit to Orlando. The restaurant was highly recommended to us by our hotel staff, so we decided to give it a try. Upon our arrival, I was not impressed. We had a reservation for 9:00 PM on a Friday night. When we checked in, we were greeted very coldly by the host staff and handed a buzzer and told to wait. It took about 30-minutes before our table was finally ready. During that time, we had the pleasure of spending around $15 for two domestic beers at the bar. Once seated, our waiter greeted us and read off the specials to us. My wife decided on the King Crab legs, and I had a filet mignon. Boy, did I regret that. The crab legs were fine, but the filet may possibly have been the worst I've ever had. It was undercooked, and about half of the steak was nothing but fat and gristle. Not exactly what I would expect for a $25 meal. To top it off, the waiter did not get my order correct, so I did not even get to enjoy the side dishes that I ordered. I would have brought this to his attention and had him correct the problem, but from the time he took our order, he never returned to the table to check back on us until he dropped off the bill. Overall, our experience was not good, and I would not go back. Although the seafood selections were quite good, the meal I had was horrible, and overall I thought the entire menu, including the wine list, was overpriced. I also have never experienced such poor service in a fine dining restaurant. There is a large selection of restaurants in Orlando. I would highly suggest finding one other than Fishbones. I know I will on my next visit.
