Reviews for Toku Sushi

Toku Rocks! Highly Recommended!! – I took my mother to Toku a few weeks ago for her birthday, she is a very picky eater since we own our own restaurant. My mother only eats the freshest seafood since my father is a chef. She was very impressed with the quality of the sashimi. Since we have been in the restaurant industry for over 20 yrs, we can tell the little details that make a great restaurant. One thing we really liked was fresh ginger and wasabi because when you see old and dried out ginger or wasabi, you know the restaurant doesn't care. My mother ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and we shared the Shiso Age, Sashimi, Hama-Yuzu and Spicy Albacore Sushi. The Chilean Sea Bass is a little pricey, but definitely worth every cent! The Shiso Age could have come out a little more crispy, but it was pretty good. My favorite was the fresh spicy albacore sushi. The server, I think his name was John was very friendly and worked like a ninja throughout the meal. Very enjoyable because some restaurant servers seem to go out of their way to interrupt your meal. At the end of the meal, the sushi chef surprised my mother with a free mocha ice cream dessert. Great Experience Toku Rocks!

Waste of money – Prices are average, about 8-20 bucks per dish.

The food was cafeteria-level. Not very good, for the price. It took a while to come out even though there were only 10 people in the restaurant. The soft shell crab appetizer was lukewarm by the time it came out, and was soggy. The katsu don was not very good either--the bread crust was soggy and fell off in strips from the pork. It looks like they use frozen vegetables too.

The waitress was not good. She didn't bring the soup or salad that was supposed to come with the entree, and then told us she didn't bring it out because it wasn't lunchtime (even though it said on the menu that it was included). When she did bring it out, the salad had the wrong dressing on it (watery mayo instead of miso).

The decor was nice. That's pretty much the only positive thing I can say about the experience.

I will not be going back.

Best Sushi in Houston and for a Great Price – I have been to Toku twice since August and I will probably go the next time I am in Houston.

The first time I went to Toku I took my cousin, who had never been to an authentic up-scale sushi restaurant, and he loved it. I ordered the Midnite Express eel roll, which had more eel than I thought possible on a roll, the Toku Roll, the Surf and Turf appetizer (red snapper and thinly sliced beef, really good and just spicy enough with red Thai chilies, and finally an assortment of nigiri sushi which was really fresh and very tasty, even the rice was good.

The second time I went to Toku was a few weeks ago for happy hour with my mom, again someone who is not big on sushi, and she loved it and can’t wait to go back. This time I had the Tartares Tower, a 3 fish tartar (Tuna, Salmon, Escolar), and the Chili Snapper appetizer. Also we had an assortment of nigiri sushi, eel roll, and spicy tuna and salmon rolls.

Both times I went to Toku the service was great and I walked away extremely full. Happy hour prices were insanely inexpensive for the fish quality and serving sizes of the appetizers and the regular menu prices were very reasonable as well. Toku would be worth driving 3 hours from Austin to Houston to go back.

Houston's Newest Sushi Hot Spot!! – It's hard to find high quality sushi in Houston. The market is flooded with bad sushi restaurants that use lesser quality fish and cover it up with various sauce combinations. Most customers can not tell...but I can. The color, the texture and the taste of each piece of sashimi tells you how much the restaurant dedicates to quality. Toku Sushi definitely uses the highest quality grade sushi and as a customer who enjoys fine sushi I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others! The service was above average, but the bar service was lacking. I went on Saturday and the drinks took forever to come. My friends and I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere with the live DJ. This is a great place to go for good sushi and lounge atmosphere on the weekends. The decor is beautiful with the changing color lights on the ceiling. Overall very clean place, good food, great atmosphere, moderate prices, service is above average!

Toku is amazing! – Driving down Westheimer, I always pass Toku and one day I decided to stop there to test out their sushi. I stopped by on a Sunday where they have happy hour ALL day. The happy hour drinks were at an affordable price, while the sushi happy hour was great! You get four rolls for under three bucks.

The service was nice, as our waiter was very friendly. The food came out at a decent time and the server checked up on us frequently to make sure we were doing okay.

Probably my favorite aspect of the restaurant, besides the delicious sushi was the atmosphere. The lighting was ambient and comfortable.

The restrooms were clean!!!!

This is definitely a place to come check out if you are craving some sushi. I've been back several other times, and my favorite dish is the Yaki-Niku (a grilled ribeye steak marinated in a spicy garlic sauce}. SO GOOD. Another favorite dish I recommend would be the Chilean Sea Bass.

Do yourselves a favor guys, GO TO TOKU!

Go to Toku! – It was great sushi at a great price.

The seafood was very fresh and amazing.

I tried the Uni, Unagi, Tai, Otoro and Chu Toro. All great sushi pieces and made me want to order more and more.

The Yaki Udon was great as well. It was a simple dish and couldn't have tasted better.

Any of the appetizers are great especially the hot ones (I'm not a fan of cold food besides from sushi).

Great environment. The service was good when I went. Very busy restaurant but worth it to wait for the seafood.

Will be back soon.

It's decent sushi, not too bad! – It really depends on what night my boyfriend and I go that determines if we'll get good service or not. Sometimes we get a friendly waitress, other times we get the ones that are really short with us and don't smile at all.

My boyfriend and I go here most of the time because it's really closeby and because he knows one of the sushi chefs.

The salmon sashimi is REALLY fresh, it's cold and doesn't taste old at all. There aren't that many rolls to choose from, but the menu isn't that bad.

I've never had horrible food here which is a relief. Not the BEST sushi in town, but it's pretty good.

I'd give it a try.

Excellent Sushi in the Westchase District – Found Toku Sushi to be both relaxing and enjoyable. Warm atmosphere, friendly wait staff, and of course the Sushi was really fresh, and modest prices. Will be coming there again soon this time with friends.

great atmosphere... even better sushi – This is now my favorite sushi restaurant. Sushi is delicious and priced better than most restaurants. Drinks were quite good. Great atmosphere... music was at a volume that allowed us to have a conversation without raising our voices. We will be back ofen.
