Yoshi's Oakland from now on! – We had a friend in for the holidays and we wanted to treat her to a great time so we picked Yoshi's because we have had such good experiences in Oakland so we figured we would give the SF branch a go.I don't want to run down a long list of things that we felt was wrong but I'll give the short list.Being a Japanese restaurant you'd think they would serve some blend of Choya NOPE! You'd think being a Japanese restaurant they would have a good selection of SAKE, NOPE! For the folks that just can't handle chop sticks like our guest, the hired help gave the person dirty look when she asked for a fork, they almost refused to bring a fork to the table for our guest. There were 3 people in our party and the kitchen could not even get our meals sent to our table together. We are understanding about this but while 2 of us eat our main meal the other sat there for a tad more than 15 min. waiting.I think the chef thinks we all are on a diet or something or there is a food shortage in America, this is / was the ONLY restaurant I have ever been to that has large plates but puts a spec on them. The only good thing I can say is the food was good, well cooked and well prepared. If the chef would have put more on our plates I could have forgiven all the other issues we ran into. The desert list came and it was as lean as the plates of food we just almost enjoyed. I tried the key lime pie and I can tell you it was no key lime pie!I am from Florida and I know my key lime pie, I make it myself, what Yoshi's put on my plate was some twisted mess of lemon/lime.Our guest never has had key lime pie before so after that poor experience we went to a shop that sells wonderful key lime pie and indulged our quest there with a real desert!Anyway the bill came and it was a tad over $280 for three without a tip.We are not the type of folks to write reviews and we are pretty easy customers to satisfy but our bad experience at Yoshi's was just too much not to take action on.

Worst Service Ever – On 12/14/07 A group of 15 friends went to the new SF Yoshis for our annual Charlie Hunter holiday concert. We were incredibly disappointed in the terrible customer service and overpriced food.

During dinner in the restaurant with my girlfriend, on dish was served incorrectly and returned. another was forgotten and late. You can go a few blocks up the street to Japantown for better and cheaper sushi.

We then made it into the concert hall where we were promptly shown the wrong seats. I had to chase down the seater TWICE to convince him of his error. He finally looked at the table number with his flashlight and pointed us towards the other end of the club. We seated ourselves after finding our friends.

We didn't see our server, Amy J, for the entire show. One friend finally went to the bar to order our drinks and served us himself. Amy got a "lucky" few friends got their drinks and food with 5 minutes left in the show.

The show ends with no encore the lights immediately go up and the announcer starts pushing everyone out of the jazz club to seat the next show. One of our party had to chase down Amy to pay their bill and had to finish eating standing at the end of the bar. We saw many groups leave without paying their bills.

Two of my friends who apparently are gluttons for punishment decided to stay behind for a late dinner and were not served their food until after the second show ENDED. They also had the pleasure of witnessing another upset patron screaming at a manager. Lovely experience.

I can understand there are some issues with the new opening of a restaurant. However the extent of the chaos and the incompetence and rudeness of several members of the staff is absolutely unacceptable. I will not return to the SF venue to pay more for less.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE! – I was at Yoshi's this past Saturday. I was so excited to come in and see Charlie Hunter, but I had no idea what I was in for. My girlfriends and I came in at about 7:30 for our 8pm show and had a drink in the upstairs lounge. It was so cool. We sat over the kitchen and could see all the cooks preparing beautiful food (the cooks are hot too!). We decided to see if we could make a reservation for dinner after the show. The bar itself is loungey, velvet couches, cool lighting. The bartender recomended this greenish martini, I can't remember what it was called, but it was yum! Charlie Hunter, as always, was awesome!! The sound in the club was so great. We had a shrimp tempura appetizer and another round of drinks, the server was super busy, but we felt well taken care of. After the show we went over to the dining room, were promptly seated and wow.... We kind of let the server order for us. The menu is big and I was familiar with all the sushi/seafood items, but a lot of the other traditional Japanese stuff was a little crazy. After having had a couple of cocktails at the show and a great night so far, we decided to go for it--what a fantastic meal, one of the best of my life. Our server was super friendly and knew the menu and sake list really well. We had some awesome sake too. All in all, a great night. We were too stuffed to try dessert, so I'm planning to go back soon

One word: HORRIBLE!!! – A girlfriend and i decided to try this place out. We eat out a lot and love asian fusion!! When we got to Yoshi's on Filmore we thought the ambiance and decor were really nice and we were excited to try the food. Well, when we go to the host stand i told them 2 for dinner the host said it would take two minutes but a gentleman interrupted and said that the dining room was full but there was plenty of space in the lounge area. We thought this was odd b/c it was already 8:30pm on a Wed night and only a fourth of the restaurant was occupied. So he sat us in the lounge area, and not in the comfortable unoccupied couch seats, but on a 2 top stool right next to the window!!. We looked at the menu and realized he had given us the bar menu even though we told him we were there for dinner. So we asked our server if it was possible to order from the dinner menu and she said we had to be seated in the dinning area. So we asked her if it was possible to move to the dinning area, since there was soooo much room...she came back after 5 minutes and moved us to the dinning area in the very back of the restaurant right next to the kitchen traffic...even though there was many other tables available!!??? Our server was nice, but she got one of our orders wrong, the Med/Rare ribeye steak i ordered was cold and tough, the salmon my girlfriend ordered was bland, we ordered some rolls and had to ask them for soy sauce...this place just didn't have it together. To compensate for getting our order wrong, our server gave us complementary chocolate cake dessert which came out tasting like cardboard and the melty/lava center was hard as a rock......I try to give restaurants a second chance, i eat out a lot and use to work in the restaurant industry so i know things aren't always perfect but with Yoshi's!? There's nothing worse than spending $120 for horrible food and service...I will never go back to this restaurant...one of the worst dining experiences, ever. Try OZUMO or Sushi Ran!

Servers that miss the point. – Went to see Taj Mahal. He and the band were awesome.

Could not get a reservation for dinner before the show. No big deal, we decided to eat in "the club" part of the restuarant.

My wife and I sat at a table in the club. 15 minutes went by without anyone asking to take a drink order. We attracted the attention of a manager, a bus boy, a guy that brought us waters, but never saw a server.

2 friends of ours joined us at the table in the club. A server showed up with two club menus and ran away before we could order drinks. 10 minutes went by before we could order any drinks. When she took our drink order, she again tried to run away claiming that she wanted to get our drink order in fast so we would get them ASAP. We tried to order food at that time, but were told to wait...

15 minutes went by. Our server comes over and she tells us she is really busy because she just got a 10 top and she has to take THEIR drinks to them. Ooops. She forgot to put our dirnk order in! Sowwy. She again tried to run away to take care of her important customers when I said no, take our food order since you are here now. She tries to explain that she needs to go, and I tell her, "No, you need to take our order and bring us our drinks, we've been here all together now for 25 (40 if you include the time before our two friends arrived!) and still do not have drinks. She begrudgingly agrees to do so.

10 more minutes go by before drinks arrive. Surprise: She was too busy to bring them personally.

10 MORE minutes go by before our food arrives.

Altogether, 45 minutes to get food and drinks to the table. I've NEVER had a server try to tell me that she did not have time for me because she had other customers. The manager was aware of what was going on, but he was not concerned with our party as he was busy with three ladies that must have reminded him of his grammy.

I will never go to Yoshi's SF for food or drinks before or after a show again.
