Quite literally, the worst service ever experienced. – Let me start off with I have never had such horrible service in my entire life, and I have had some bad service in my day. I’m a pretty reasonable person and it takes a lot to get me really angry. That being said, I planned a party where about 15 people, give or take, would come in and watch a very important playoff game, have drinks, and play games. I called in as soon as they opened, 2PM, and asked if the game would be on with the sound and the girl said it would be. If they hadn’t, I had another place lined up with multiple rooms we could go to, but TAPS was a little easier to find. So I did all of my invites and got all decked out for the big game. I get there at 5 PM to secure a table, TV, and sound when the game doesn’t start until 7 and sat alone for 2 hours just to make sure there were no hiccups. People that worked at TAPS even talked to me about the game before hand and as soon as I walked in had asked me if I was the one that called due to my attire. They set the sound and game at 7, my friends showed up with tons of games, I had already spent good money on a tab and food, everything was exactly as planned and there were a few other tables watching the game around us as well. 40 minutes into the game another guy who had relieved the other employees came to me and said that football was on and that majority ruled. The place was dead empty except for us, one other table watching baseball and a group of 8 belligerent guys across the way who were screaming they wanted football or they were leaving. I explained that I planned this; that I called and sat alone and was promised sound and TV. I stood up and counted and explained to the employee that only 8 people wanted to watch that game and that 15 people were watching ours and it was already in progress. He said that he had permission from the manager to change it and changed it in the middle of an inning. I had the opportunity within all that time sitting alone and calling earlier that afternoon to go somewhere else if this was the case, explaining this gave me no empathy. I had just ordered a bucket of beers and could either finish my drinks and miss the game or go next door and catch it and lose my money. The guy gave me the manager’s card and I left to go next door, leaving my paid for drinks with a few friends who had to stay in case others came. I called the manager several times and left a voicemail asking to call me back to resolve the issue and that if I didn’t hear back, I would publicly complain about their business, his name was Jerod Andrews. He never called back. After the game next door, I went back to TAPS just to say bye to the few that stayed behind and found out that the group that pushed for the TV to be changed left at half time and didn’t even stay, where as our table stayed and kept ordering. When I asked the guy about it, he shrugged his shoulders and said “tough.”

I know this is long winded, but I was blown away with how nonchalant they were about wasting my time and money on this. They ruined my night and didn’t even care. There are TONS of bars around this hole in the wall place, GOOD bars…it’s the Washington Ave strip, for goodness sake! Just an FYI, Brixx next door had a nicer patio and WAY nicer staff. There are tons of places to choose within a one block radius, just don’t choose TAPS House of Beer!!!!!

Down to Earth Beer Joint – It's an unfortunate fact of life that anywhere on Washington is going to have it's share of douchebags and 30-Thousand-Dollar-Millionaires....any area, whether we're talking Midtown a few years ago or the Village, that's hot is going to attract a crowd of people that want to be "seen".

Thankfully, I think Taps is one of the bars that will last through the trendy phase the Corridor is going through right now. It's just a great place to kick back and have a beer. Play shuffleboard or dominoes. Munch on some good bar food. The Jenga set will undoubtedly have pieces missing but will also have hilarious social commentary scrawled all over it. (PS - If anyone finds the "For a Dancing Mo, Call XXX-XXX please throw it away!!)

Also, the staff is not only super friendly but they know their beer. You can always ask to try something new and they'll be happy to help you find some great new treasure to add to your alcoholic repertoire, ha!

You'll definitely see me and my girlfriends on repeat visits :)

Douche haven – Saw just way too much fist pumping and popped collars for me to ever come back. Also at closing time, the staff specifically went up to my Hispanic friend (who was one of the few sober ones in the bar) and started yelling at him that it was time to go. Horrible approach and way to kill business. Such a shame a bar has a good concept like this, but is trying to enforce a clear lower middle class white suburban demographic. Will not return.

Citysearch Editorial Review – In the midst of all the trend-driven bars on Washington Ave, Taps’ focus is more on substance as evidenced by the more than 90 beers lining the draft wall (all of which are $1 off during happy hour). Stroll through the front door modeled after a wooden keg and into a hophead’s haven, where there’s seating for all. Get there early to grab the comfy sofa in the back corner with the welcome pile of board games or the armchairs up on the stage. Sit outside either in the front or in the back, to get closer to a game of corn hole.
