Nice try, Limelight, but not quite – Sorry, Limelight, you failed. What could have been a really unique shopping experience is anything but. Instead, it is a maze of confusing passageways that lead to absolutely nowhere. With the exception of 1 or 2 retailers, the product offering is tacky and, well, complete junk -- we're talking street fare level junk. This shopping "mall" is failing with little or no foot traffic and has more personnel foot traffic than customers, which is exactly why all the press reviews were so negative. Limelight owners are now going to convert the space (for millions of dollars mind you) into a luxury department store with the goal of a "Barneys-esque" luxury vibe. Really? That will NEVER happen. Here's to wasting even more money! Cheers!
Citysearch Editorial Review – Originally erected as a church in the 1850s, this sprawling Chelsea space went on to house one of the most infamous New York nightclubs in the 1980s. In its latest incarnation, Limelight is now a bona fide mini-mall. But while it may sound indistinguishable from the average mall--three floors of assorted shops under one roof--there is nothing suburban about it. Instead, the signature maze-like interior that made the superclub so famous remains largely intact; it feels more like a bazaar than a mall, with 60-odd specialty shops, cafes and salons. Vendor highlights include LeSportsac, J. Sisters Salon, Baci Gelato, Hunter Boots, Havaianas, Brocade Home and Old Hollywood.
