Citysearch Editorial Review – The Chesapeake Room is one of the classier eateries in the Barracks Row area. The atmosphere is distinctly casual, but the aquatically themed decor feels more elegant than nearby counterparts. Regal paintings of ships and lighthouses adorn the walls, and the wooden bar calls to mind something right off the Mayflower. Although the menu is limited, it’s constantly changing thanks to the restaurant’s focuses on organic and seasonal produce and sustainable meats. Patrons can expect options that mirror the sea-themed ambiance, so oysters and seasonal fish show up alongside crab cakes, seafood salads and more traditional fare such as chicken and pork chops.

Grits equal AHMAZING – I was definitely did not disappoint was the food. While the shrimp and grits I ordered did not resemble the traditional preparation of the dish, the edition presented at The Chesapeake Room was incredible. The grits were encapsulated in a fried bedding that rested atop plump shrimp drenched in a satisfyingly complex sauce consisting of spicy accents to an alcohol based tomato sauce. The house cured bacon was also fantastic. I am not exactly sure how they prepared the bacon, but suffice it to say that they made bacon taste even better than usual.

If the brunch menu was a simpler, more watered down version of the dinner menu (as I would expect), I'm thinking that the kitchen might bottle up greatness in the evening hours. The Chesapeake Room is certainly an exceptional addition to the Barracks Row neighborhood. I expect to be a regular.
