Citysearch Editorial Review – This cool and casual bistro may be in a hotel, but its snazzy Cal-Italian menu and smart artisanal cocktails offer a welcome relief from much of the overpriced and uninspired neighboring Sunset Strip dining. The Grafton is one of WeHo’s sleeker little boutique hotels, so you might spot a rock star or two slouching by the pool and the scene fits the modern restaurant to a tee. Replacing the old Boa Steakhouse, the Olive is light and not so snooty that you can’t watch the game on TV. Prices are moderate to boot. Butter yellow booths, glossy Brazilian mahogany tables, glass tiles and an arty chalkboard featuring changing word bubbles reference menu specials. The olive wood bar (of course) is where to get creative cocktails like a Basil Old Fashioned with fresh basil, lemon juice, honey, Fernet and Woodford Reserve. The menu features blue crab frittata and braised short ribs with fried eggs for breakfast; salads, gourmet pizzas and brick-roasted chicken with rosemary grappa jus for lunch; and entrees like pancetta prawns and Tuscan prime bone-in ribeye with truffle butter. Grab a seat on the sidewalk patio for great people-watching along the boulevard or at one of the marquee tables on a balcony overlooking the hotel’s pool.
