Austins new old style. – Excellent atmosphere for those tired of 6th street or the other trendy areas. AWESOME beer selection. Service is prompt and friendly. The food? Well if you like pizza you'll LOVE Jax. Price point is spot on and the live music will keep you entertained if the game doesn't.

Relaxing place to hang out and eat – The waitress was very nice and attentive. Always made sure I had a drink refill and plenty of ice. (Two of my top priorities when eating out.) She said that she was new (October 2010), so if you have read the reviews about bad service, maybe you should try again.

I had the Bacon, Avocado, Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich. My boyfriend had the chicken salad sandwich. Took a while to come out of the kitchen, but it was so fresh tasting, I couldn't complain. The bread was toasted, but not soggy with butter or grease like some places. They were generous with the toppings as well. There were probably four or five pieces of bacon on my sandwich.

The weather was nice, so they had the doors open and football on the TVs.

It was a really great experience, and since I live so close, the people at Jax will probably see me a lot.

The only thing that was disappointing was the menu. Pizza and sandwiches -- there are two pizza places in the vicinity, a sandwich place across the street...

If you want to stay in business, Jax, I think you will need to change up the menu a bit.

JAX Sets the Record Straight – As the owner of JAX, I take any and all criticism seriously, and as a lesson for me and my staff. Consequently, I have never replied to a review. Rather, I discuss the good and bad reviews in staff meetings in a never ending quest to give the highest level of service.

However, after reading the "OK Food, Horrible Service" review, and considerable thought, I felt it was necessary to set the record straight.

I remember very well the customers who wrote this review, and have to ask, "WTF?"!!!

First of all, the allusion to our "red haired waitress" annoying the customer to place an order at 10:30 at night is bizarre.

Our Cafe closes at midnight. Therefore, last call is a 11:50. If you arrived at 10:30, and were asked every 5-7 minutes to place an order before the kitchen closed, this would have occurred 13 to 15 times! I think you will agree it did not.

While we actually do not, and never have had a "red haired" waitresses, the server was attempting to get your order into the kitchen before we closed. She did check in repeatedly to try to get you served, even after "last call" was announced.

By the time the order was placed, approximately 5 minutes till midnight, the kitchen was closed. Like most restaurants, when you are closing, you tend to close the kitchen.

I asked the cooks to reopen the kitchen to serve you, and came out to let you know we were making every effort to accommodate you. At the time, you seemed to appreciate the effort, and I'm glad to see that you enjoyed the food.

Neither me nor my staff have any recollection of "weird behavior" being discussed, but if it was, I can state without question, it had nothing to do with you.

So, considering that your narrative is factually incorrect including the time (?), the waitress, and the discussion that you thought took place, I would suggest that we are being treated a bit unfairly in this review.

Honest criticism is fair, and anyone in a service industry is fair game. But, my friend, this review is demonstrably a work of fiction.

Best Pizza in Austin! Pretty smooth Jazz too! – I've been really looking forward to trying out the pizza at JAX. I've heard others say it's literally the best pizza they've ever put in their mouths.

My expectations were so high, I really didn't think any pizza could live up to the hype.

THIS ONE DOES! No joke. It's simply just perfect. Not too doughy. The crust is more like a fine bread that's delicate but thick enough to support the rich ingredients. Then there's this bottom layer to the crust that's simply divine. It's hard to describe, it's just the right amount of golden crispy but not tough like other crusts you have to tear through. This is totally different crust then anything I've ever had before.

Also reasonably priced considering the fact this is likely the best pizza in Austin. I honestly didn't expect this pizza to live up to the hype because I didn't believe ANY pizza could. Happily, my suspicion was wrong. JAX's pizza is indeed the finest pizza I've ever had in my mouth.

JAX delivers in spades!

I went there a week ago to hear live music. Joe King Carasco was playing. Hadn't seen him in years and he didn't disappoint. The sound system was pretty sweet too. Not glaringly loud, but the room was definitely covered in a velvety blanket of sound. Had a leftover slice of a friend's pie that night and had to go back to see if it was anywhere near as delicious as I'd remembered... considering it was cold. The fresh pie sent my taste buds to a whole new level.

OK Food, HORRIBLE SERVICE – A friend and I went up one Friday night around 10:30 and sat down to one of the picnic tables outside. After a few minutes of waiting a red haired waitress came running up asking us for a drink order, and if we were ready to put in our food order. We ordered our drinks, but not food, I hadn't even had a chance to glance at the menu! Within the next 5 -7 minutes our waitress annoyingly came by about 3 times asking whether or not we were ready to order food, and figuring it was just getting to be close to her "off" time, we ordered everything at once, and waited for our food to arrive. Well, a few minutes later, I'm guessing somone who was supposed to be (or at least act) like a manager came by and simply said sorry but the kitchen is closed, that when they had last call on drinks, was when the kitchen as well closed. I said I remembered last call on drinks, but no one had mentioned the kitchen would be closing, too. "sorry, kitchens closed" was all I got in return. Ok... just as my friend and I are about to get up and leave, he says "oh wait, looks like they are going to make your food anyway" I couldn't help but look confused at the guys complete unprofessional and lack of caring behavior, so I just stuttered "ok".

As the so-called manager walks awa I hear him say to the red-headed waitress " that girl was acting weird" Jeez... don't wanna put you guys out over a sandwich and some guacamole! When he returned with our food, I apologized for coming across as "weird" ..I said, but certainly didn't wanna put anyone out. He seemed to have gotten that I had overheard and began apologizing ...But nonetheless, we stayed and food was delivered, which I will admitt was very tasty. We had gotten a grilled chicken "grinder" with chips, which turned out fresh and the chicken wasn't dry. So, at least I got some good food out of the "joint", right? Won't be back.

Friendly Staff, Very Welcoming – My friends and I took our dog to JAX to sit and eat on the patio. The waitress filled up a water bowl for us, which as vary nice. We had the "Le Parisian" sandwich and a pizza. Both were really good, the pizza was unlike any other I have tried before! They also have all their beers on happy hour M-F. I like that you can sit as long as you want and order as little or as much as you want and the waitress will never try to push the check on you. The staff said that is the "cafe" feel they are going for. Will be going back Wednesday night for Geeks Who Drink trivia!

It's a joint, not a cafe. – Replacement Drungos isn't half good. The place shouldn't be called a "cafe." Their website is "jacksjoint." "Joint" is a better description. They have more beer and wine selections than food. The menu selection is limited. Four apps, then sandwiches and salads. Where's the "cafe" part?

Service was friendly but super slow. The place was empty and it still took almost 30 minutes to get our order of a salad and a cold sandwich. C'mon, neither requires any cooking. When the food finally arrived, it was not worth the wait.

The place is more of a bar/sandwich joint. On the plus side, they have a lot of seating.

Fun, affordable cafe – Jax's provides a great mix of families and students on the north end of west campus. The great prices, good food, and the drinks are only a few draws. Although the service isn't tip top, I expect it will improve as the cafe matures. They also sport Geeks who Drink on Wednesday nights for Trivia and have weekend beer specials. The dog-friendly patio is kept cool with fans and shade, lit up at night by festive strands of lights.
