American cuisine done right: fab deviled eggs and fried chicken, plus well-executed bistro faves like steak tartare and a burger. Oh yeah, and poutine.

Celebrity Chef Tyler Florence brings the sweet and savory flavors of Southern and classic comfort foods to San Francisco's Financial District. Whether you're buttoned up in a suit or looking cool and casual, Wayfare Tavern is perfect for any occasion. Recommendations: Deviled eggs, fried chicken, burger with bacon and runny egg, baked mac n' cheese and the pineapple upside down cake. If you're lucky, you may even see Chef Florence himself in the kitchen. (Request the Chef's table if he's in town!)

Cozy lighting and prominent deer heads make you feel like you're in an old, French hunting lodge; the generously sized portions of tasty, elevated comfort food make you feel satisfied and happy. Add to the mix some outstanding cocktails and the chance to spot a celebrity chef, and Wayfare Tavern is the perfect choice for a celebratory dinner on the town.

Great interior, hustle bustle- nice ambience. Find comfort food plates with haute cuisine dishes. Tyler Florence delivers a well rounded restaurant experience. Great burger, opt for the sunny side Petaluma Farms egg. Oysters are delicious here. Awesome mantle in the dining room, great decor

Good food great service but a bit of a snooty hostess – OK I work around the corner so a friend and decided to give the Wayfare Tavern a try. We had reservations for lunch and after checking in with the hostess we were duly ignored while other parties arrived checked in and were seated. After mentioning to one of the hostesses that we had been here prior to other parties who they had already seated we were seated upstairs. The service was awesome and the food was quite good. I grew up in the restaurant busines so I know a little something about service. The waiter will keep me coming back but if I have to deal with the snooty hostess I can tell I would think twice about returning to this restaurant.

Citysearch Editorial Review – A line around the block, a posh address and a celebrity on his iPhone out front? Sounds more like the opening of an LA club than a local restaurant. But step inside this corner brick building and find a crowded yet cozy, busy yet accommodating, loud yet somehow romantic scene. Welcome to Wayfare Tavern, the flagship eatery of Food Network Ultimate Chef, Tyler Florence. When he took over the Sacramento Street space, which once housed Rubicon, it was hard to imagine what a former New Yorker might try to accomplish in this food-aware city. He didn't reinvent the wheel, or try to impress us with some new-age technique, but instead chose to feature a menu of turn-of-the-century classics in a boys-club-meets-ski-lodge setting. Steak and eggs, crab Louis, baked Alaska and oysters Rockefeller all grace the menu--but Florence takes a cue from the farm-to-table movement that now defines Bay Area dining and sources just about every ingredient from within a 100-mile radius. At lunch, the restaurant caters to neighborhood demand and offers chalkboard specials of soup and sandwiches, in addition to the regular menu. If Wayfare Tavern is any indication of what Tyler Florence plans to bring to the Bay Area (and he does plan to bring it, with other restaurants now open in Mill Valley and Napa), then it looks like New York's loss is SF’s gain.

The Ultimate Turns San Francisco Out – Could there be anything better than a local chef, in a local restaurant cooking organic West coast meets East coast fare? DON'T THINK SO! My guests & I arrived late for our reservations(presidential motorcade got in our way)& we were promptly greeted by smiling hostess. We explained our delay & she chuckled with us when I remarked, "We had a good reason, since I would never delay getting to Tyler's food!" The bar was bustling since it was opening night. It was a great mix of businessmen, foodies & looky-loos trying to catch a glimpse of the ULTIMATE chef! We were escorted to the second floor dining room. It was masculine & feminine w/ a touch of hunter's lodge & fine dining thrown in for flavor. There is also a small bar on this level w/ minimal seating but just as bustling as the lower floor bar. Tables looked like reclaimed wood, the benched seating was very cozy, & the there was a LARGE amount of wait staff. Also, on the second level is a velvety, red pool table for the gamer in you. The list of Pool Etiquette Rules, my friend & I found comical, as we played waiting for out food.(i.e. No Juvenile delinquents or gambling) The room had a gorgeous built in library. Food did take some time to get since it was opening night. (working out the system, i guess) When it did arrive, it was mouth-load after mouth-load of taste-bud pleasure. Oyster's Rockafeller(INCREDIBLE), deviled eggs(THE CREAMIEST), Squash Blossom Soup(ARTISTIC), Steak & Eggs(NUTS), Goat Cheese Raviolis(INTENSE), SIRLOIN(LOVELY), & the Lamb(BRILLIANT)......oh, yeah....I DID EAT OFF OTHERS PLATES!! It was one of the best dining experiences of my SF foodie life. My friend & I went to see how the kitchen was functioning & were floored by it's small capacity. We were told, however, there is a separate prep kitchen & pastry kitchen on other levels. Tyler was very kind, as we were watching him plate food, he actually stopped, greeted us & thanked us for coming by. I have to give an honorable SHOUT OUT to Gary Danko being personally served by Tyler Florence. I was among cooking GIANTS & I was inspired! 5 STARS x 2!!!
