Pricey, Ripoff – We read the reviews and decided to try it out. It seems to be a family owned place as there was only one waiter. We were 4 and I was surprised to see 20% gratuatity added to the bill. Service was slow, food quality was average. Quantity was less than normal. It is a very congested restaurant. Even cocktail was not done properly.
Designer Restaurant but needs to tweak the flavor – My family and I just came back from eating out here tonight because we got so excited from the reviews, Im not sure what some of the people ordered, while a few items were tasty, its hard to really say its the best indian food in houston. Im Indian and I have been to almost every Indian/Paki restaurant in Houston.
Pros: their M Lounge & in the making Sugar Land Social Club looks totally hip, posh and stylish and Im considering hosting an event in the smaller room. Extremely stylish decor, serving style. I definitely would say it is the most chic indian restaurant/event hall in Houston.
Chili Garlic Dynamite - we had spicy cheese as an appetizer which was really yummy but what killed it was the overly raw pepper in it that would burn the mouth of the average Caucasian, if it was making my parents have to drink so much water. If this was tweaked it would be in fact be Dynamite.
Kofta: I looved it, the presentation was so trendy, the koftas came in pyramidish shape and it really hit the spot, I felt like I was in a NYC restaurant. I liked that they already brought extra sauce because they can predict customers will ask for more. This will be something Ill orer again.
Tandoori Chicken: this is where it went down hill completely, they shouldnt call this Tandoor chicken because there was no Tandoori spice. Traditional? Not a chance. It wasnt the traditional color, taste or smell. It failed as a chicken dish in general. The flavor was completely flat and it didnt seep into the chicken. Also it was one thigh and two legs, for the price of this dish, I would expect there to be more white meat. This was the worst "Tandoori Chicken" Ive had. On the bright side, they had grilled veggies with it which was an unexpected treat. The couscous that accompanied it was exotic and delicious, it added a nice texture to the meat.
I went in again to inquire about that private event booking, and commented on the chicken. They let me know that customers can actually make special requests to the chef and they can make the tandoori traditional style. They even offered to make a complimentary tandoori chicken the executive chef would make for us to pick up the next day. They get a lot of points for that.
Saffron Ginger Kulfi: presentation was fantastic, looked like a work of art. I liked the tiny diced mango and strawberry; the splash of color looked beautiful. The idea of the two flavors being melded together seems strong though I couldnt taste the Saffron flavor much. The ginger was not working, perhaps a little more. The texture should have been more airy and creamy but perhaps it was not thawed out enough.
When I mentioned that in the meeting, guess what: they offered me a cardamom brownie on the house and I really liked how they took a classic american brownie and presented it with an indian touch and a sophisticated flair.
This restaurant/lounge/private event space has the potential of knocking peoples socks off. Its so high end and sophisticated, finally! I do hope they work on their menu to get the flavor at its max. I know that I will need to make special requests to the chef to prepare our dishes with more flavor when I go in the next time. Their customer service is definitely top notch.
Best in town Indian Restaurant – I am a big fan of this restaurant. I am Indian and therefore I consider myself a good critic about Indian food at least. Here are the reason why I like this restaurant: Staff was very polite, waited well, knowledgeable (in other restaurants, sometimes waiters have no clue what they are talking about) and tasty food. We weren't sure of something and asked a question about an order. The waiter answered it and thought we were not very happy for some reason. Later, the chef himself visits us and surprises us with fabulous desert for us at the end of the day. I am definitely frequenting this place. Ambiance – really a good melting pot. Indian in taste and American in customer service. Check out the M Lounge upstairs too... its very impressive, DJ was pretty good ! (Hey, DJ, hope you play good lounge/house/techno/trance music as well) and not mostly rap. I am sure if they mix the kind of music and continue with the current level of quality and taste, they will do really well
Sugar Land's Best Indian Cuisine – Can't get enough - I think I have almost tried everything on the menu
Fanatical Cult Status – Despite being in a shopping center behind Super Target at Hwy. 6 & Southwest Frwy., this modern Indian restaurant has attained near-fanatical cult status, with some critics hailing it the best in Houston. What's all the fuss? Consider the starters of Chicken 65 or Chile Dynamite Paneer. For a main course, try either the Mango Chicken, Ribeye Steak, or Pork Vindaloo (Be warned--this is some of the spiciest Vindaloo curry you'll ever try. Not so daring, ask the chef to make you a mild version) But another of Mint Spice Bistro's surprises is the phenomenal wine list, on which you might find a vintage to cool your palate.
Houston's Best Indian Restaurant – We eat out frequently and consider ourselves to be quite demanding at times. Mint Spice Bistro exceeded our expectations... We were welcomed with a friendly greeting. The atmosphere is quite pleasant and the service was top notch. The staff could be better trained on some of the menu items. The chef did come to our table to make sure all our concerns were addressed. The food - WOW!!! The Best Indian food in Houston. A viewing window into the kitchen allows you to see them cook your food. We were very surprised to see such an incredible wine selection. Another interesting note - unheard of at most Indian restaurants - beef & pork are both on the menu. This is definitely a place to frequent. Loved it!!!
Best Indian Food in Sugar Land – It's about time this kind of restaurant came to Sugar Land, Indian food with class. The chicken 65, mogo and the lamb are a must. They also have a lounge right upstairs.
