We are a bunch of ladies ( regulars) that belong to the Lebanese club. We were told by one of your waiters that Michaelangelo the famous pianist is coming back to entertain us with his wondeful piano music. We are thrilled to say the least. We love the food and the ambiance and we think Michaelangelo's versatile music repertoire is going to add so much joy and happiness to our dining pleasure. Its about time.
Totally Overated – They've done a good job of providing the food that old River-Oaks people are conditioned to eat and why they have major changes in their tastes from where God wants their tastes to remain. They even have the MIllionaire Pie that their parent's "Negro" would make for the family on a regular basis. The place is a 70s retro throwback to the 50s with the old school piano player up front. The food is not that spectacular, good not great, overpriced and the prices are often not listed (wink wink). When we were there for my mother's birthday and she was not impressed by the place per se it was only black people in sideways caps and so on either just sitting there silent and looking kind of bored and dissatisfied with life or like they were the coolest people in the city- there were two excuse me three groups of people there. None of the RO people as I guess they have moved on to getting overchanged for the bottles of alcohol at Tonys on their credit while the rest of us who are adult just drink a beer every once in a while from Richards or Specs or maybe a Wine and then drink Coffee or say Cranberry Juice and if we are in shape and active in many places lots of water. The food seemed to be sweetened up for the crowd that night. THe mixed drinks had a lot of sugar put in them and the waitress admitted she doesn't eat sugar- I swear I am getting addicted to it albeit it still leaves the after taste you hate and I miss spicy. Time to stop mirroring my mother and desserts... I don't know why when some black people get money they want to run to the golf course or show they can be in what they are guessing is the white man's cool hang-out. This place is not cool- look to where a lot of white Ys go for cool places in Houston to eat like that chick version of comfort food on
11Th street or some Sushi hangouts where it is fun to look at your food and eat it with the Chopsticks and the Seaweed is great too. You can learn to lose your tastes for sugar/honey and maple syrup in 1-3 months and get to your true tastes and loss the risk for severe diabetes too. You can learn how to slowly move up to exercise the right way over time from 1-3 lessons a trainer can provide you and feel great while exercising and catch up on the news or stuff from the podcasts, radio or a rerun of something or listen to self-help audio- whatever and actively think while working out too. That's just me y'all- I'm jus' sayin'...
simply the best – My only complaint is if you have never been here, you will have a hard time finding the restaurant in the store. It is hiding. Just ask someone where it is in the store. The restaurant is amazing. The atmosphere is unlike anything I have seen. Really romantic and quiet. If your not a drinker, order the tea. Best I have ever had. The crab cakes are so good. I ordered the potato crusted flounder. So good. You must try the desserts or have them to go at least. I am not a fan of bread pudding but I can't get enough of theirs. This restaurant will cost to at least $150 for two people but it is worth every penny.
Very poor quality food, chef Pedro impolite & rude – This place used to be my favorite spot to eat lunch and dinner at least twice a week. It has changed so much in the last year from bad to worse. The food we order is like a Cafeteria style, tasting from bad to worse, I had hair in my salad the last time and the bread was old and the coffee stale, Saks should have a quality chef that knows what he is doing who has education and knowledge of how to run a kitchen instead of coming out to the floor and giving us a dirty look just because we had a complaint about his cooking. we shop and dine at Saks many years but behavior such as that by chef Pedro is unacceptable and down to earth very rude and impolite.
