The only place to stay in NYC – Whenever I travel to NY I always make sure I stay at the Affinia Manhattan. I stayed here for a month once during the summer and they could not have been any nicer. Be sure to ask for extended stay prices if you are staying for a while since the discount couldn't be beaten by any of its competitiors. It's convienent location provides access to the whole Manhattan scene and is a only a few blocks away from the world's largest department store, Macy's! Their beds are comfy and some even come with a kitchen which is great if you don't like to eat out that much. All in all, this is the the only choice when you come to Manhattan!

Good Customer Service, but not so great experience – Apparently New York hotels and I just don't get along. I booked a room at the Affinia Manhattan Hotel for a last minute business trip to New York (the W's rates were over $700! Yikes).

Here are some of the disaster highlights:

1. Check-In: Upon arrival I was told that my reservation had been cancelled!

2. Room decor: Convalescent home-like...cherry stained & lacquered furniture and art work you wouldn't put out in a yard sale.

3. Business center: An elementary school would be more sophisticated...one computer that could actually take a dvd or cdr.

4. Wake-up Call: Button on the phone didn't actually connect you to anyone who could take wake-up call requests...when I finally did get the request in it was 15 minutes late on delivery...thankfully the street noise woke me up on time.

To be fair, I have to say that the staff was extraordinarily nice and helpful. Whenever there was even the slightest snag they jumped right in to fix the problem. Not a bad place if you are traveling with kids. While it's not fancy, the rooms are huge...small apartments actually and the rates are reasonable (around $280/night). Also, the food in the bar was surprisingly tasty.

It totally could have been worse, I could have been at the Dream Hotel.

Picky-Chick

Great central location! – The Southgate Tower Hotel is in a great Manhattan location. You are just steps away from MSG and Penn Station as well as 11 blocks from 7th Ave and 42nd St (Times Square). The hotel staff was friendly and courteous and got us into a room well before their check-in time (we arrived red-eye from California). Rooms are well appointed, clean with comfortable beds (we had a good-nights sleep the whole week we were there). Their Concierge's are knowledgable, helpful and friendly, and I hope ours is there the next time we go. You won't be disappointed.

An old-style hotel attracting varied patronage. – The Scene
This hotel is across from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden in a bustling area. It is also conveniently located for the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The 1929 building was renovated in 2001 and is part of Affinia's Manhattan Series. It attracts a diverse group of visitors--sports teams, garment folks, businesspeople and families.

The Details
With more than 500 suites, this is the largest all-suite hotel in Manhattan. Accommodations are decorated in various styles, with mahogany furniture and a patterned lattice fabric used on the bedspread, drapes and sofa. All are equipped with kitchens, iron/ironing boards and hair dryers on request. Leave a shopping list and your groceries will be delivered. There's also a coin-operated laundry, deli and fitness center. Niles' New York City restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Outstanding Hotel!! – I have visited New York many times in the past 15 years. This is by far THE BEST hotel I've ever stayed in. The rooms are very nice. Our room had 2 double beds. There was a kitchen (yes a real kitchen! Small but more than adequate), a dining area and a nice comfortable spot to curl up on the couch and watch TV. The bathroom was small, but very nice. If someone wants to sleep and another person wants to stay up to read or watch TV there is adequate space to do this. The hotel is down one block & across the street from Madison Square Garden and your on in the fashion district..great shopping! The area was very safe and close to everything! Perfect place to stay with a family (especially with the fully equiped kitchen).

Best Stay in Midtown – The hotel is just outside the east entrance of Penn Station/Mad Sq Garden at 31st & 7th Av. My college son & I reserved a "studio suite" (1 room w/kitchen), w/2 queen beds for 4 nights. Because of a 2:30AM arrival the 1st night, we stayed at no additional cost that night in a "1-bedroom suite," which adds a separate room for the beds with its own bath & TV. Both suites were recently remodeled (though not brand new), roomy, with comfortable beds, sofa couch, & clean baths. Staff were friendly & helpful, halls & lobbies were clean & bright. At $119/n (web), a deal!

Excellent Suites!!! – Took my sister and brother in law for the weekend.

Room and service were excellent, as well as location.

The kitchen could be updated but a great, huge room!

Went back by myself and got a Jr. suite. This room was even nicer and brand new. Kitchen was bigger and all new appliances. Stayed for 4 nights on an internet deal. Couldn't beat the price.

Great location as well!

Very nice personnel – Personnel here was very nice and helpful. Room wasn't bad. We had a 2 bdrm. suite, and altho it said it could sleep 6, it really isn't conducive to 6. 5 people would be tops. Room itself was OK, but the couch, which doubled as a bed, left a lot be desired as far as comfort and condition of the mattress. There also were no linens provided for the sofa bed. On the upside, it is centrally located and we were given more towels when we requested them very quickly. Service was good. Prices reasonable. Overall, not a bad value in NYC.
