Chelsea Room - A Stand By... – A friend of ours is a bartender next door at El Quijote. We normally wait on him to close up and them go next door to Chelsea Room. The staff are good people - the security guys are friendly. This is more a lounge/club with many people doing bottle service. It has become a stand by for us when in the neighborhood on a Saturday night or after eating next door. If you are a smoker there is a designated outdoor area for that purpose. Your share of "trust fund kids" doing the bottle service and a mix of other genre/ages. Drinks are kind of "pricey" but again that is what separates those with a good paying job, and those without. A selective door policy which is always a good thing. It's not always what you know, but who you know...

Citysearch Editorial Profile – If these walls could talk--er, on second thought, be glad they don't. The historic Chelsea Hotel plays host to this subterranean hot spot (formerly Star Room), where the banquettes encourage dancing and everything else about the place encourages poor (and therefore, fun) decision-making.

Storied Hotel Hot Spot Returns to its Roots in Style – If walls could talk beneath the fabled rock star hangout Hotel Chelsea, they’d have a lot to say. Perhaps that’s why owners of the new Chelsea Room gutted the former speakeasy, stripping the underground lounge of its Serena (2004) and Star Lounge (2007) roots, exposing its original 19th century brick walls—reopening with thumping sounds and contemporary drinks this fall 2010. The three-room, all-banquet former artists’ den sets the stage with dim candlelight and mini brown-crystaled chandeliers over 13 oversized, double-tiered leather booths in deep beige tones.

The dark, low arch-ceilinged spot helps vibes resound with more pulsating fervor, as DJs spin luring mashups of hip-hop, dance and house music. Walkway-ready barkeeps sling Star Vodka cocktails—pioneered by the former Star Lounge owner—in gray button-downs and '20s era black suspenders at two main bars. Bring a date for intimate nights or groups for serious bashes the old-fashioned way—you know, with seductive mini-dressed waitresses and live conga drum players. The Chelsea Room is open Wed-Sat 10pm-4am, with cocktails like the 19th Century and the Vault an average $13 each.
