Great tour for tourists or locals! – I did the Santa Monica tour. I came in with high expectations and I was not disappointed. Therese was GREAT - besides being personable she really did a fantastic tour. A local who knows her city.
There was MORE than enough food and every stop was different.: Bakery, Tea house, Wine tasting, Border's Grill, Deli and Gelato. We all live in our own little communities - how much do we really know about our neighboring cities? L.A. is so diverse and these tours are an incredible way to explore our diverse city. This would be ideal for the out of towner's looking to "do LA." - my Dad is coming to town next weekend and he wanted me to plan something for us to do on Sunday. Hmmm, what can I plan that is just a bit different (and will take half a day)? I booked the Six Taste Hollywood tour - I think he'll enjoy it!
The interesting thing was that everyone on the tour lived somewhere in LA. I will absolutely go back to every place we visited (a few I already know well - Border Grill / Tudor House).
If you live in LA or are visiting LA and have never really explored, or don't know where to start exploring Six Taste offers some great choices - Little Tokyo - Downtown LA, Thai Town, Dumpling Tour, Santa Monica and Hollywood - I really want to try them all - then the next time guests come to visit I can go somewhere besides Venice Beach......I'm looking forward to the Hollywood tour.
Santa Monica Food Tour – Therese, our tour guide was awesome! She was so personable and a breath of fresh air!
As for the tour itself, it was delicious! I loved experiencing new restaurants that I would never have thought to go on my own! My favorite stop was Border Grill. Be sure to get a margarita! Try this tour out. It is worth it! You will be full! I can't wait for my next Six Taste experience!
six taste litle tokyo – This is a superior event and Betsy is a guide that few could equal. Saw lots and ate lots that I have never imagined within that small space of Los Angeles. Nice day, good vibe, great pace....lots to see and do and eat. Check it out!!
Soooo good. So relaxing, so filling, so STUFFED! – Great job, Matt. The walking food tour of L.A. was great. Very informative but relaxing. The day was beautiful and all of the fellow tourists were friendly, fun and enjoyed eating as much as we did.
The food was really good and the portions were generous. Loved the mac and cheez and I could go on and on, but I'll let you be the judge when you join Matt next Sat!
PS: log on to Monkey Hatchet's Inside Room #334 for some entertainment while you wait for your tour.

Great tour with a high price tag – My friend and I jumped on a LivingSocial deal for the Santa Monica Six Taste tour. We met at the farmers market this morning and were greeted by a wonderful tour guide, Therese. Seriously, this chick knows her stuff, legit foodie and the perfect personality for a tour guide! We started at the farmers market, grabbed apples from an organic farm, honey from a beekeeper and then stopped in a bakery, an English tearoom, deli sandwiches in a park, tapas and wine in a Spanish bar and wrapped up with gelato. All the while Therese, and her sidekick David, were informative and entertaining! When I made reservations, I made note of my shellfish allergy and not eating red meat. There was something for me at every stop, even if a substitution had to be made (i.e. a Caprisi sandwich while everyone had a Godmother and a deviled egg tapa while everyone had chorizo). So for my fellow foodies with dietary restrictions, check to see if they can accommodate… now vegans and gluten-free diets, I don’t know…
The group was pretty diverse – girl’s day out, couples and a couple people out taste testing on their own. I didn’t realize the actual cost of the tour until today when I saw their brochure. The Santa Monica tours runs for $65.00. I would not say this trip was worth $65/person. Believe me, you walk away with a full stomach and a list of places you want to come back to… but I wouldn’t put that high of a price tag on the tour. Look out for Groupon and LivingSocial deals before you sign up!
Very Special Tour – We just got home from the Dumpling Tour in Arcadia. Mike is a great tour guide. He really likes his work and it shows. He took us to Din Tai Fung Dumpling House which is the first time we ever ate Pork Dumplings. Learning Tea etiquette and other aspects of Taiwanese cultureis done in a relaxed atmosphere. We will not be nervous about eating at a place like this again. Going to SinBala was fabulous. Great food, very attentive and respectful service. we bought some sausage to take home. Cozy Cafe and Chang's Garden will be getting our business in the future. JJ's Bakery was a real eye opener and it is so popular.
For people like us who are experienced in other culture foods, this was a real big help since Taiwanese cuisine was not clearly understood until Mike walked us through the learning.
We were able to get the tour at 1/2 price through Goldstar, so it was even a better deal. Strongly recommend this tour for others and we will be looking at doing other tours with them.
Santa Monica Tour: Incredible! – I just got home from the Six Taste Santa Monica tour in Santa Monica and can't recommend it enough - especially if you live in LA!
Our first stop was Rockenwagner Bakery. Now that I know they have pretzel croissants and the best coffee in west LA, I'll be a frequent visitor.
Stop #2: Border Grill. This stop was such a treat! We spent most of our time at this location trying multiple dishes and enjoying their delicious margaritas. Even the vegetarian option was to die for!
Stop #3: Tudor House. My favorite part of this location was the history behind its existence. It was great to learn more about this piece of LA's diversity!
Stop #4: Pourtal. This eco-friendly wine bar is a beautiful and tasty new hang-out I plan to revisit. Not only are the options sophisticated and diverse, but they also serve delicious food to be paired with your wine of choice. I highly recommend the hummus!
Stop #5: A picnic in the park overlooking the ocean at sunset! And what could be better? Sandwiches from Bay Cities Italian Deli! This place is always so packed that I've never had the time to try their sandwiches so I was thrilled to get a taste on this tour.
Stop #6: Angelato! After choosing a flavor, we were able to choose either a cup or cone of our favorite flavor! Soooo yummy!
Lastly, our tour guide Therese was simply amazing. Her knowledge of Santa Monica and dynamic personality made me proud to be a tourist in my own city!
Delicious Dumpling Tour Was Awesome! :) – This past Saturday, I went on the Six Taste Delicious Dumpling Tour and it was absolutely fabulous. Mike, our guide, taught us a lot about Taiwanese food and at each stop, he went into detail about each venue. Whether it was describing the unique breads and pastries that could be found at J.J. Bakery, showing us the proper way to eat soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung, telling us about the Night Market Food and SinBala and more, it was obvious that Mike knew his food. I definitely learned a lot and look forward to taking more Six Taste Tours.
Downtown tour was great! and Tracy is awesome!!! – Hey All,
I just came back from the downtown district Six Taste tour with Tracy, and i just wanted to say that she was amazing. She was very informative and very knowledgeable about the downtown area, and was a total sweetheart to talk to!
If you get a chance try to take the downtown tour with her, you'll have a great time! And you'll be full by your third or fourth food stop out of the six food stops that are there.
The one suggestion i would make would be to try to group all of the savory food stops together and then all the sweet stops, but i know that might be quite hard to do because of the layout of the restaurant locations in the downtown area.
Thanks for a great time Tracy!
