Reviews for Aviary

Adventurous eaters will have a ball grazing this menu of intriguing small plates like charred octopus with scallion pancakes and sweet & sour monkfish. Don't pass on the beautiful desserts, or the excellent happy hour held in the laid back bar--Mon-Fri 5-7pm and all night on "classy Mondays."

You won't need a whole bottle of wine to try the hamachi tartare or crispy pig ear--if you give anything a try--you will be more than delighted.

When three young chefs combine forces with international influences, the result is an eclectic and flavorful menu of modern dishes like crispy pig ear salad and heirloom tomato french toast with preserved lemon aioli.

Eclectic palate, eat here! Fried chicken skin salad with watermelon, Zucchini Charlotte, Tempura pumpkin. Small, fresh, wildly unique dishes.

Won't be going back – Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, but it definetely seems like there's a competition with chefs to produce the most odd menu items--and when you create that real shocker--voila! You're a hit! I however have nothing against this restaurant's menu--in fact the tempura pumpkin was quite good. I recommended my friend and I come here becuase I heard of these hip chefs from NY that were starting a new restaurant and I'm always one for new food. My problem and why I'm giving a one star was not with the food but with the unbelievably rude service. We I showed up early as we were looking for a happy hour, but were fine with an early dinner as they had just opened. We didnt even get a hello at the door (and we were practically the only ones there!) but an eye roll and grunt by the chefs--almost irritated that they had people wanting to dine there. We shockingly stayed, as I still did really want to try the food. My takeaway however is that there are too many good restaurants in Portland to spend my money here.
