Reviews for Barista

Billy Wilson's well-curated artisan cafe invented the concept of multiple roasters featured behind a single coffee bar. The best place in Portland to hone your single-origin coffee-snob chops. Best for grabbing to go.

Great coffee – I had the $9 vacuum coffee, Ethiopia Beloya, . The process of creating the vacuum coffees is like a science demonstration with beakers, a halogen bunsen burner and boiling water. I had no idea what to expect from a $9 cup of coffee. The taste: Very complex, my tongue was waiting for the bitter, burnt taste but there was none. I tasted cedar along with citrus (but not acidic) notes. The coffee finishes with clean floral notes. The baristas of Barista know and love their coffee.

I need more stars to give this place! The best coffee in Portland.

best espresso – Three single origin coffees featured for espresso. Baristas match the bean to the drink and produce some of the best macchiatos and caffe lattes anywhere. Friendly people behind the bar serve coffee lovingly prepared. Go!

Independent coffeehouse educates locals with rotating menus. – In a narrow stall in the Gadsby building, this light-filled, brick-walled hangout aims to bring a brewpub-style concept to the coffeehouse for its laptop toting, condo dwelling clientele. Professional baristas have beans from a trio of roasters at their disposal, and encourage coffee aficionados to compare and contrast Portland’s Stumptown Coffee with a pair of rotating “on tap” roasters. The focus is on the coffee, but the scene’s appealing, too: Outside the front door, squat wood tables and stools (plus free wi-fi) encourage customers to order their coffee “for here” with a sweet pastry on the side.
