I came in contact with extravagant fare around april Mr. Lyons was very helpful and concerned after the consultation I decided to book mr. lyons I noticed lack of communication with mr. lyons after giving him a 2000.00 deposit but he later returned all calls. If I had not looked at the news I would have never known about this con artist my event was scheduled for august 2013 in the process of finding another caterer after losing 2500.00
BEWARE OF EXTRAVAGANT FARE! Upon the recommendation of our wedding/reception venue, last summer 2012 we hired Extravagant Fare/Sean Lyons to cater the reception for our July 2013 wedding. The tasting he made for us absolutely delicious, and so we gave him a deposit. In February, our wedding coordinator notified us of a recent wedding she coordinated in which Sean was the caterer. After hearing a whole host of horror stories about his lack of preparation, lack of food, lack of alcohol, lack of staffing and unprofessionalism at that wedding, we confronted him about this event. At that meeting, Sean promised us that if we decided to cancel our agreement, he would give us a refund. A week later, with our deep concerns still unsolved, and not wanting to take a chance on him, we decided to cancel. All of a sudden, the man who had been so prompt with his communications last summer became totally non-responsive. Unable to get any response or refund from him, I was finally able to successfully obtain a refund of my deposit by making a claim through my American Express card, which is how I had paid the deposit. Since then, I have discovered that my venue has taken him off of their preferred vendor listing due to a decline in his performance throughout the latter half of last year, and I have heard of more horror stories about a lack of food, etc. at the events he's catered. My wedding coordinator is still out the money she paid out of pocket that night when she had to run out and buy more food that Sean said he couldn't afford to buy, and based on another posting here, it sounds like she may never get reimbursed. A con-artist indeed!!!
DO NOT USE EXTRAVAGANT FARE, TOTAL CON ARTIST. We booked Extravagant Fare as our wedding caterer a year in advance for our April 20th wedding and ran into many problems about 4 months out. His communication skills were seriously lacking as well as his competency. I am seriously confused as to how he can even own a business. After a month of unanswered emails, phone calls and texts we were finally able to make contact. After a strongly worded conversation expressing my frustration at his services his response time was little better, but still not up to par.
Two days before the wedding we learned from our venue that he had not submitted the ABC permit required to serve alcohol at our reception. We could not get him on the phone for hours and eventually had to secure our own permit which took 4hrs and cost us $75 and the added stress of realizing what we may be in for over the next 48 hrs. On the day of the wedding our venue was not set up by the specified time and the groom and groomsmen had to set up the venue before our guests arrived. He forgot about the ice cream sundae we were to have in lieu of a wedding cake and the sundae for my grandmother's 80th birthday and ran out of essentials like water, glasses, silverware, etc. The food concept we had decided on was completely wrong and the set up was incorrect which rendered our contracted lighting useless. When we tried to collect our leftover wine and decor items after the wedding he had lost our specially engraved spoons for the sundae we never had. He also destroyed our handmade table runners and center pieces.
In addition to all of the services we paid for that he did not provide and the stress of knowing that our dream wedding was nothing like what we had planned, he owed us money for the difference in the final guest count versus the count provided for our price quote. After a number of attempts to reconcile said costs and no action on his part, we filed a suit with the small claims court.
On the day of our hearing we were told by a magistrate that he had been sued multiple times and never showed up for a hearing before, so we should not expect him...no surprise there! Luckily he did not show and the magistrate ruled in our favor, not that there was any reason not to. We have to wait 10 days to see if he appeals the decision or gives us our money. If not then we will take the next step. At this point it is more principle than money.
For all of you who have been screwed by Sean Lyons of Extravagant Fare, take it to court, get your money back and let's shut it down.
Do not do business with Extravagant Fare (Sean Lyons)! We contracted with them to cater our wedding in May 2013. He took our money in advance. He failed to return emails and phone calls. He never showed up for our event nor did he contact us to explain! He pulled the same scam with another wedding on the same date!
DO NOT USE under any circumstances. The owner, Sean Lyons, is a con artist--he took our money for deposits and then disappeared. We've subsequently heard that the same thing happened to others who did business with him. We're now out thousands of dollars and have had to scramble to find a new caterer.
Extravagant Fare catered my wedding this July, and I couldn't be happier. First of all, Sean replied almost immediately to all of my emails and phone calls--unlike many of the other caterers I contacted. He was super easy to work with. Most importantly, the food was delicious! I received many comments on the food, and saw many empty plates at the end of the meal. I'd recommend Extravagant Fare most highly.
Sean Lyons, the proprietor of Extravagant Fare, did all of the catering for my wedding this August and made food that truly elevated the taste, style and atmosphere of the event. Sean served as not just a chef but as a consultant to help my wife Allison and I choose food and drink that would make every single detail of our wedding just perfect. You can trust him to make your special day absolutely enchanting.
I could go into detail describing the beautiful spread he produced, but the pictures speak for themselves. Everything was rich, tasteful and showed a unique attention to detail. Sean had very thoughtful ideas about dishes that would use local fruits and vegetables and appeal to the guests we invited. He was able to produce a truly exceptional reception (on short notice!). I couldn't recommend Extravagant Fare more enthusiastically!
Excellent Experience – Located in Durham Extravagant Fare is defiantly my preferred caterer for my own personal use as well as for my clients. Their superior service and attention to the smallest detail is what places them several levels above the rest. The unique, tastefully done menus are a delight to the eye as well as your palate, a sheer delight for everyone who attends any of my events. From an intimate dinner for two to an open house for 200, I always have a smile on my face and a ton of compliments by the end of the evening. Plus, I got to enjoy my own party!!!!! Extravagant Fare.
