Reviews for Coppa Ristorante Italiano

Coppa Ristorante Italiano is true to its nation of origin, but with a Texas twist – and by that we mean bigger and better (not smothered in chili, why would you think that?) Dishes like pumpkin ravioli garnished with dried cranberries, toasted pumpkin seeds and simple brown butter will make you put your fingers to your mouth and air kiss while saying "belissimo." This in turn will prompt your friends to mock you for the rest of dinner.

Coppa is upscale Italian without being too snobby. Good Washington scene, solid food by Chef Brandi Key. Carbonara pasta is the signature dish, a must-order if you've never tried it. The Coppa ham and quail egg pizza has got to be my favorite -- super tasty. Lots of gluten friendly pasta options and house-made pastas, like the potato ravioli or the bigoli, offer some delicious choices.

Brandi Key's take on Italian / Mediterranean food is a welcome voice to HTX, Pizza is killer & don't forget to try a well crafted cocktail or reasonably priced wine.

Didn't have time to stay at his Catalan replacement, but the food has always been wonderful and the bar is always packed. Highly recommend.

Average at best – A friend recommended " Coppa " and promised the best of Italian dining. There was nothing distinctive about the food, service, or ambiance. I felt cramped with the seating arrangements. Limp salad; pasta was over-cooked. Only thing remarkable about " Coopa " was the over priced menu.

Some good notes, but not recommended – I went here on a Saturday in October for the first time with a small group of friends. The physical restaurant is nice, love the patio and the dining rooms.

We got seated and I was already uncomfortable because of how close the tables were. I was expecting this to be a bit upscale, and when our server came over and handed us the menu, there was only a few hints that it was supposed to be: the prices and a few fancy ingredients. Otherwise it's a lot of standard Italian fare. The wait staff were Olive Garden grade. Polite but they didn't know how to pour wine, didn't know how to give us time to look at the menu, and my biggest turnoff was how they were horrible at reaching over everyone at the table to pour wine or serve plates. She was pleasant but not great. Bus boys and other food runners all the same caliber, banging plates and throwing food on the table like your mom did at home as a kid.

The food is decent yet overpriced. $18 for most pasta plates. Most plates are surprisingly typical: lasagne, meatballs, other general pasta. VERY few meat dishes or non-pasta. They fancy it up with a few things that have truffle oil or an exotic cheese to it, but otherwise not all that exciting. It's either pizzas (again, $16 or so each) or pasta. There were no specials that day. The menu is limited, spare for the nice selection of "bites" and apps. Salads were boring, and my grilled caesar salad had the worst caesar dressing I've ever had with croutons so hard I nearly chipped a tooth.

This place has potential but needs a better, more refined menu offering things like meat dishes and fish. A few home runs to note: their ahi tuna starter was excellent, and the lemon semifreddo dessert was also excellent. Skip the lame prosciutto breadsticks (the size of long pencils). Meatballs were tasty but not worth what they charged for an appetizer. There are much better options around town.
