Terrible terrible bar – Want to see d-bags and uggos galore? Head to the wit. The drinks are mediocre at best and overpriced. The seats are uncomfortable. The area is overcrowded with the worst kind of people; and the staff fits right in.
Pleasant experience – The experience of dinning on a rooftop is great. The service was mediocre and the food was not great at all. However, if you are looking a chill place to go, then this is the place.
Most miserable bar experience in Chicago. Ever. – Oh how I wish Citysearch had a zero star rating.
Let’s see if I can articulate how completely miserable the Roof @ the Wit hotel is. A small group of us had selected it as a venue for a 20 year high school reunion. I started reaching out to them over a month ago to try and understand our options for an event of that size.
They didn’t call me back.
They didn’t respond to email.
When I asked other people to try and call, their calls weren’t returned either.
I even tried to go through Open Table, but to no avail. The only way I finally managed to get their attention was by Tweeting how thoroughly miserable my experience had been. Within half an hour I received a curt message along with their price list – a reservation for 1-10 people carried a $1500 minimum (well beyond our budget). Without that we just had to take our chances because, hey, it was all first come first serve now.
The bar opens at 4 and we were assured by the hostess who finally called us back that if we showed up by 4:30 we’d have no trouble being seated. 4 out of 5 of us were there on time and waded through fanny-pack sporting tourists who looked like they were on their way back from drinking Old Style’s at Wrigley. After we managed to score a table, service was – at best – laborious with waits of 20 minutes for our drinks.
Oh, then there’s the part where they closed half the bar for a wedding reception (something they could have told us on the phone when we finally talked to someone the day before). And the part where they suspended elevator service for the wedding party, stranding our last guest in the 100-degree heat for about an hour. Never mind that there were four elevators working, that this was just ONE patron and that the staff had been well-advised we were expecting this person. I wasn’t even allowed to go down and get them.
I finally demanded my check (they didn’t include a copy for me to sign so I just walked out). Absolutely no tip. I’m embarrassed that I selected it as a venue. The views are mediocre at best, the service is abysmal and I can’t believe that people think this place is anything close to hot. Spend your money elsewhere – trust me when I say that the Wit won’t care about you or your party even when you’re laying down your cold hard cash.
Loopish Posh Happy Hour Spot – Want to 'get away'? Then head to ROOF at the Witt Hotel and you'll be in Miami at a posh cocktail lounge instantly! The cocktails are always delicious and ice cold, the bar-bites are perfect to nibble on and the people watching from ages 23 to 63 is amazing! This is quite the scene and always a blast....just make sure you get there early (by 4:30pm) if you want a table. It gets PACKED!
Top Outdoor Patio – This top floor venue and atmosphere are fantastic. Both for the after work imbibing and the night out, Roof can be counted on for fantastic views and a class atmosphere. The outdoor space is the highlight with an array of seats from bar style counters to large lounging areas with white couches. Their specialty drink menu is a must. For the summer, try the Effen & Elderflower-it is light, crisp and refreshing without the sweet aftertaste. Their beer selection ranges from pale ales to ambers. Their wine bottle prices start at 36 and go to 350. Selections of pizzas, flatbreads and crostini round out the food menu. It opens at 4 pm, and you should probably get there then if you don’t have a reservation.
Rooftop bar in the Wit Hotel takes Loop nightlife sky-high. – Luckily for the stylish after-work and late-night crowds, the Wit puts more energy into the design and execution of its 27th-floor indoor/outdoor rooftop hangout than it put into the name. The lounge's 7,000 square feet of prime real estate lays claim not only to incredible views of the city, but also to a playful, come-as-you-are atmosphere and neat-o design details like a row of bar stools flanking a long fire pit and a telescope for voyeuristic peeks into neighboring high-rises. And because a party can't survive on views alone, there are also Italian-tinged small plates and seasonal libations to fuel the fun.
