Last review, the guy is a real JackHole. His complete lack of credibility has prompted me to write a review for the very first time. If you have ever spent 5 minutes with Dr. Cohen or his staff, or actually been to this great small veterinary hospital, you would know none of what this Brian C. says is valid. Brian sounds like a real nut case or a planted review from a competitor. The only good thing is that he'll likely never be at our favorite vet again. That's a relief! Obviously, Brian is not a very smart guy who rants when he doesn't get his way or is abusive to people no matter where he goes. I pity his poor dry cleaner! The real truth is that Dr. Jeff Cohen is an amazing veterinarian and person. Dr. Cohen's staff is so patient, no matter the fool they have to deal with. Luckily, most of the fine patrons at Dr. Cohen's office are gentle, caring pet lovers. Let me assure you, you can be confident in Dr. Cohen as a choice of an expert vet. There is not a vet in the area who holds a candle to him. Our family came to him eons ago when we'd tried every one else with our very sick dog. He proved himself to us and keeps on making us glad we met him. Oh, yeah, I've been a client since 1990. Super Recommendation for The Newport Beach Veterinary Hospital and the great Dr. Cohen!

GREAT vet, HORRIBLE staff!!!

For the record, we've been going to Dr. Cohen since 2006. Their complete lack of customer service has driven me to write this review...

Every time that we go there, I feel like we pay a premium to be treated like s**t. The girls that work the front desk are not only unpleasant, they are borderline rude! Do they not realize that we are paying for them? Where does Dr. Cohen find these people, and why does he allow them to continue working there?

The worst is when they call you in the afternoon to tell you that your pet will be ready for pick up by 5 pm. What that really means, is that you (along with about 7-9 other pet owners who fell for the same trick) will be waiting on your pet until 6 pm waiting on them to pull your pet up to the front and process your paperwork - and the women at the desk work with no sense of urgency. They just want to make sure that they're out of there by 6 pm so they cram us all in their lobby at 5 pm.

Did I mention that they do not have digital X-Rays? So if your pet needs to see a specialist, they have to get a courier to transfer the X-Rays (good luck with that) - because they don't want to give them to you! Really? Digital X-Rays have only been out for about 10 years now. You'd think that with all of the money that they're making they could invest a little back in to the business.

If it weren't for my wife, I would have fired these guys years ago. I think that it's about time to vote with my feet.

ps. Parking on PCH is limited and borderline dangerous!

Seriously Awesome Vet! – This is pretty much my pets second home. I seriously do not have the words to describe the care you get from everyone here. This is a pet owners/lovers place and you will know from the moment you walk in the door. I have been a client here for over a year now and will never go anywhere else. I live over 25 miles from here but can tell you that it is worth it. Found them on the Internet if you can believe that then 2 other people I met randomly recommended Dr. Cohen so it was fate. My boys and even one I had to put to rest all love it there. Everyone there is awesome and super friendly and for sure will never steer you in the wrong direction. Dr. Cohen is really a genius. Seriously, folks, he has that kind of IQ but the nicest guy you'll ever want to meet. When I see him when I come in with my crazy dogs, he always has a joke or a way about him that makes you feel you are safe and in the best hands. He is a multi-pet owner himself and knows the many breeds in and out. He also is certified as a specialist and one of the best vets to ever come out of the veterinary school at UCDavis, plus he rides motorcycles so you know he must be very cool. Dr. Cohen even tweets so check him out @NewportVet.

This place is seriously awesome and I honestly can say I love coming there. It really is as good as it gets.

Take your diabetic cat to Dr. Jeffrey Cohen! – I tell everyone I know who has a diabetic cat to take their cat to Dr. Jeffrey Cohen at Newport Beach Veterinary Hospital.

We rescued Oscar, who is half Ocicat and half Manx at 4 months old. Of course we brought him to Dr. Jeffrey Cohen. In 1999, we moved to Oregon for 18 months on business. While there, we took Oscar to a local vet to have his annual shots and annual teeth cleaning.

I was horrified to get a call from the vet, advising me that they had removed one of Oscar's front saber teeth and wanted permission to remove others.

I told them 'No'. I was alarmed that they would remove a tooth and I questioned the necessity since Oscar was only a few years old.

When I returned home and took Oscar to see Dr Jeffrey Cohen he told me that Oscar's teeth looked fine.

Oscar is now almost 14 years old and hasn't lost a tooth under Dr. Cohen's care.

Here's a perfect example of Dr. Jeffrey Cohen being on the cutting edge of what is going on in veterinarian medicine:

In June of 2009, Oscar became diabetic and was taking insulin shots twice a day. Dr. Cohen suggested that we try a new diabetic reversal diet.

Oscar went on the diet and later Deborah Cohen was elated to inform us that Oscar's diabetes was officially reversed!

That's right! Officially reversed!

Oscar is totally off insulin and runs around the house like a kitten!

It is such a tremendous joy not to have to give my cat insulin shots twice a day!

I don't know who is more appreciative, me or Oscar!

Dr. Cohen is a great Veterinarian! – My husband and I won't go anywhere else but Newport Beach Vet Hospital. We tried a couple of places closer to home when we moved from Newport Beach to San Juan Capistrano, but the care wasn't as good. Not even close. Dr. Cohen, Deborah, and the staff in Newport Beach go above and beyond the call of kindness and proficiency. Dr. Cohen literally saved one of our cats when the cat was nearly dead--still & not breathing. Dr. Cohen and his wife are an amazing, kind, patient, gentle, and gifted team and Deborah stays with our pets overnight when they have surgery or are sick so we can sleep. I cannot say enough great things about this place. In a sentence, we drive a half hour in traffic for up to an hour in order to have our pets seen by the skilled Dr. Cohen (and yes, we have jobs and full lives, too. So, an hour is precious time). What does that say about this place? WORTH IT!

MY 5 STAR PICK! Dr. Cohen is a GEM! – I have sent folks to Dr Cohen exclusively for several years because he is incredibly smart, willing to work with people, and a great (famous) vet. Several friends and co-workers have come to me with dilemmas that they could not afford a certain surgery on their cat/dog and were looking at putting the animal down. Everyone has always called me back advising how wonderful Dr. Cohen & staff were, working with them even on the most complex and expensive surgeries and cancer treatments. More importantly everyone is thrilled he was just really a nice guy who loved animals. One friend could not believe his dog liked him as he has bitten his last 2 vets! In this world of large vet clinics with a dozen or more vets on staff who appear to be impersonal and basically just a business - it is refreshing to find this small practice who treat you and your pet as though they matter and truly seem to care about the clients and animals. I will always be taking my dogs and cats to Dr Cohen and have found him very knowledgeable and experienced and wonderfully human. And I realize I am probably the client from hell sometimes when I'm upset about a sick pet and he was still nice and his staff always make me calm! You''l be safe with these people.

Always will be people dishonest & not tell the truth about events. We want to believe people who love pets are inherently good. Overwhelmingly, yes. Sometimes, not. "$2600, dead dog, no answers" is dishonest. Mrs. Kuljerich actually presented 3 dogs, requesting many services. One dog had an eye malignancy. Eye specialist said remove the eye to save the pet. Mrs. asked Dr. Cohen to evaluate dog further still; "do everything & cost no concern." Dr. Cohen & his wife worked all New Year's Eve, forgoing their own holiday plans for this sick dog. Fraudulent credit card given. Still Dr. reviews all sad findings w/Mrs.+ another dog had thyroid disease. Mrs. opts to "see how the sick dog would do over time". Never followed Dr. Cohen's plan or rechecked & when scheduled consult with doctor, never showed. Mrs.said she was euthanizing dog at another vet. Both Mr. & Mrs. repeatedly dishonest about "check's in the mail" for delinquent bill. Tough working w/ dishonest people. Poor sweet dog. Sad.

Cool to go here. – I've been super happy w/ this vet for the little dude. Cohen is a crack up for a smart guy. I'm shocked that parking has never been an issue w/ it's location on Coast Highway and that damn construction.

Every single staff member there has always been great. As in they actually seem to enjoy working there. I don't even get that at the doctor I've been going to since I was 13.

Probably the best part is that they are very good, complete but not pushy about anything when lil buddy needs to go get a booster or what not.

So basically I like my vet better than I like my own primary care givers. Sweet. Hmmm.... I wonder what they'd charge to take care of me.....

We always feel at home here! – The people at Newport Vet were so helpful when we left our regular vet after another vet told us the first vet had misdiagnosed our little dog (complicated). The second vet told us Dr. Cohen was the smartest vet around! We stay and keep using Dr. Cohen for the professionalism and knowledge of the doctor. They have responded quickly to all my concerns and questions about my dog's health. They were compassionate and gave us our options with our cat also. Their clinic is sparkling clean, high-tech capabilities but friendly. All of the people are nice, capable and attentive to both pets and their owners. I highly recommend this vet clinic. Dr. Cohen really listened to what I was saying. I truly felt like he cared, and more important, he is smart and knows what he's talking about! I had a bad experience elsewhere where the vet was nice but turned out he wasn't smart. At Newport Beach Vet, they were willing to work with us and get our pets the best care they needed.
