Lakeview movie house turned live theater. – Overview
The Broadway has gone through a succession of owners in its long history. Built in 1914, it was a single-screen, 371-seat movie house until the Meridian chain shut it down in 2000. Old framed movie posters--"The Shining" and "The Day the Earth Stood Still," among others--still hang in the dimly lit lobby. Candy and drinks are for sale (you can bring your own into the theatre, too). Electric candles flicker along the walls of the theater itself, and the seats still have cup holders.

The Experience
In May of 2001, the Broadway reopened as a live theater with the Chicago premiere of the glam musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," then closed again, only to reopen in spring of 2003 with the Australian show "Puppetry of the Penis."
