Awesome Spa! – Visited VanDavis Aveda at Thruway Shopping Center after being recommended from several friends. I will only go to Aveda Salons because of their unique products. Jamie did a facial on me that was fantastic. She was very well educated and thorough. After my facial I received a color and cut from Christy and she was awesome and very unique! I bought the full line of skin care and the Color Conserve hair care and my hair color is still beautiful.
The Salon and Spa were beautiful and I even met the owner. You can definitely tell she is involved and on top of it!
I would recommend this spa to anyone and everyone. If you go make sure you take a tour of the entire salon and spa. Impressive!
jessica is the absolute best ever! – i have been using jessica as my esthetician for a few years now and she is incredible. also, so empathetic, as she has helped me so must after being diagnosed with cancer and my treatment and surgeries for that...so not "her job". her massages are fabulous also.
for nails, highly recommend hope....she's so sweet, and amazing...and just as empathetic; yasmine if you cannot get hope.
the dolls up front, carrie and lauren are super sweet and incredibly helpful...love them!
How did they get Aveda Franchise? – I have been to Aveda Salons in MAJOR metro areas throughout the U.S. I have never experienced the diappointing hairstyle experience this Van Davis "Spa" gave me. One would think they were on Rodeo Drive with the attitude of the staff, there. The difference is that the shop girls on Rodeo ARE sophisticated and their snobbery is what one pays for. The cut was substandard (a fact I have relayed to Aveda) and the atmosphere was stiffling. One can only imagine how a woman's hair is styled, there. As for me, I found a good barber shop!

Pleased – I am very picky about the quality of spa services, and I must say I have not been disappointed at Van Davis. While I have only experienced their waxing services, I can say it is top notch. This is one of the few places in Winston-Salem that can do a bikini wax the right way - without strips! The only thing I would change is to have more space in the back where they do the spa pedicures.
The only girls i will let touch my hair and face – I love this salon. I have been going to van davis for years! I usually see Courtney or Kathryn and Jessica for waxes and facials. Never once have i had a less than perfect experience. After reading these reviews i realized that people are so quick to jump on a bad experiece and tell everyone because they are unhappy. But no one bothers to write about the good experiences which most likely out-do the bad! So as a dedicated client i am here to praise the team at van davis, keep up the good work girls you are all fabulous!
5 Girls, 5 Styles, 5 Botched Jobs – I had made appointments for myself and my 4 bridesmaids to get their hair done at Aveda back in May. I wanted the girls to have their hair the way they liked it, so they each had very different styles. One wanted pin curls, another wanted a gelled bangs swoosh over one eye, loose curls for another, and a half-up do for the last. After each of them being in the cahir for 1.5 hours, they all came out looking exactly the same. They looked like adult versions of Shirley Temple. Needless to say, they all took their hair out and did it themselves again as soon as they got back to the hotel.
I had come into the salon months before to have a trial done for my "Loose, messy french braid look" that I wanted. When this was done, I brought in an exact picture (8.5 X 11) of the style for reference. Instead of looking Bohemian and casual, it was the standard tight mass of curls on the back of your head that gets used for proms ever year. I told her what to do to fix it for the real thing in May. I went home, messed it up to the point I was very happy with it and took pictures to bring back for the real thing.
Skip back to wedding day, I get called in for my hair do, and they tell me the girl who did my trial no longer works there and that someone should have called me to tell me this. Well, NO ONE called me and I essentially wasted $70 getting the trial done in the first place. I showed the girl the photos of what I wanted and explained what I did and did not like about what the first trial had resulted in. The style came out looking worse that the first trial and I eventually had to just tell her to stop so I would have enough time to fix it when I got back to the hotel.
Moral: Aveda cannot recreate the styles that their customers want. 5 VERY different styles (and classic ones at that) all came out wrong and looked exactly alike.

Horrible service & highlights – I have been going to Van Davis since last October for my highlights but this latest visit will be my LAST! I made my appointment with the same hair stylist I always visit, asked for the same color combo I always get (which I gave them all the detailed info from another Aveda salon in Atlanta) and still she screwed it up! I looked like Marilyn Monroe...my hair was white, not blonde & looked like it was a one color all over bleach job NOT highlights. I didn't notice when I was at the salon because the lighting in there is horrible..it's like a bat cave. When I got to my car I first noticed it. It continued to lighten up as the night progressed, until I washed it again. I called that night to speak to a manager but they were gone & was told one would call me the next morning. I waited until 10:30 & called & was told that all managers were off site in training!!! I continued to call until I could get an appointment that day. When I got to the salon was the first time a manager would speak to me. I believe I met with the owner of the salong & since she doesn't do color (???!!!!) she couldn't tell me what my hair stylist had done wrong. They "corrected" it as well as they could but now my hair is blonde on top & brownish on the ends. Since I had to have back to back color needless to say my hair is breaking & is very unhealthy. I would not recommend this salon to anyone based on the lack of experience & managment response to a problem. Customer service is VERY important & I think the way this situation was handles was very poor.

Not for Men's Cuts. – I got the most awful haircut of my entire life at this place. Im a male with curly hair and went in with very simple instructions: leave most of my length, just trim down on the sides and back so it doesn't look as wild. Well, she cut off half my length all over, and everything is the same exact length. Basically, it couldn't be worse. Before I got my hair cut here, I went to my campus barber and the beauty school salon (those are students and you subject yourself to practice). I got a better cut at both of those places. Van Davis claims to do both men's and women's hair, but from my experience, it is clear they lied. If you are a guy looking for a place to get a hair cut, STAY AWAY.

WOW – I couldn't believe it when I walked in Van Davis I felt so relaxed the place is amazing. I got my highlights by Heather she did a fantastic job. I would recommend this place to anyone I knew. The best thing about them is they are open 7 days a week.
