My husband and I recently enjoyed a date night at Boxwood Bistro (thanks to Sharing Spree!), and the food was delicious! I got the salmon and it was perfectly cooked, and my husband had the pork and raved about the flavor. If you haven't tried Boxwood yet, we highly recommend it! I would definitely say it is better suited for a nicer meal or special occasion dinner though - it's a tad on the expensive side.
Wine for many – If it weren't for the friends we met, the experience was lackluster. The wine, except, for 2, was generally second rate. The idea of light hors d'oeuvres is good. Drinking without eating is a bad idea. As this event lasts from 6:00-8:00, we arrived at 6:10. The Light hors d'oeuvres were almost gone. When asked if there would be more, by a member of our party, the waitress snapped, "when they're gone, they're gone". But, they did refill one more time. Considering the $15.00 per person tab, you get about 1 glass of wine all toll and a scurry for a bit of food. I think you can spend your $30.00 in a better place with better results.
THE WNE TASTING IS THE BEST VALUE IN TOWN – I have been to almost all of these wine tastings and they are awesome! They do get very busy... I have never just seen cheese and crackers. The spread is always impressive, especially for SIX wines and FIFTEEN DOLLARS. I have never seen them pour like josu63 mentioned... It is a social so having fun is important. There are snacks. If you are hungry get the ribs... they are amazing!
GREAT WINE TASTING!! – I hate to hear that someone had a bad experience at the Boxwood Bistro wine tasting. I have gone several times and have been very impressed!! The bartenders were very attentive to my group. The food is more than cheese and crackers! Their smoked salmon dip is awesome!!!!! We will be back EVERY wednesday!!!
Stay away from the wine tasting!!!! – And they run out! Also, unless you plan on tipping $$ each time you get your pour of each wine or are barely legal with a rack - don't expect to get more than a sip to taste. I actually watched the bartender serve 4 people before me (one guy who I saw was dropping $5 in the tip jar each time he came up and 3 girls who were showing alot of skin) in line more than a full pour if they were buying a glass not at a tasting, and when I got approx 1 ounce pour (you are supposed to get a 2 ounce pour) and complained - he had the balls to try to tell me they were running out because too many people showed up. When I told him I saw what he poured to the others - he walked away. But the last pour I got was at least what I was paying for. I sent the owner an email telling him about my experience and I got no response. This restaurant is a hobby for the owners ...and it shows.
good wine specials, good food – I have been to Boxwood Bistro twice, the first time they were having 1/2 off bottle of wines. The meal was excellent and the service was great there was 4 of us we had appetizers, (2) bottles of win and 4 dinners with salads for under $200.00 tip included, pretty good value and the food was great.
My second trip was with a party of 12 we dinned on the patio upstairs, the service was decent but my steak was overdone. All in all I would recommend this place! Great pleace to have an outdoor party!
