Worst rental car experience I've ever had. Do not ever, ever, ever rent with them unless you want ripoffs and unbelievably rude service.
I rented a car for a weekend trip. As soon as I drove it off the lot I noticed the alignment seemed off. Thinking nothing of it I kept driving. The next day I wake up to a flat tire. I called them to see what they do about flats and instead of being helpful and directing me to a tire repair they were extremely rude and informed me that tires are not covered by their insurance. I ended up with a $75 bill to cover their faulty tire. When I asked them to mail me a receipt so I can get the bill hopefully covered by insurance they informed me that the "don't do that". Apparently their office doesn't come stocked with envelopes and stamps or they were just being difficult on purpose. Really a terrible customer service experience for an already expensive rental.
I'd rather take a bus than rent from this company again.
I wouldn't rent from this company again nor would I recommend anyone to. I had to call 911 and call the police to resolve the civil matter at this office. Reasons I would not want to rent from them:
1. $1000.00 authorization hold for debit cards and $500 authorization holds for credit cards. Other more reputable, customer service oriented, and well known chains do not hold as much. The reason behind the hold is that the company itself look for multiple ways to charge you money.
2. The customer service. It is a small chain, the East 33rd location is located inside a parking garage with a young indian/guyanese woman, Lisa, who seems to analyze you to see if you are a customer that can be ripped off. Although I almost 30, I look young and I believe she thought I was someone who she could rip off.
3. With the rental I also rented a GPS, the GPS contract states that if the GPS is deemed damaged the customer would be CHARGED $500.00 for the damaged GPS. Also you, the customer, is not allowed to receive a copy of the GPS contract, which should have been a huge RED FLAG for me. There is no checklist or proof that the agency shows that the GPS comes in excellent condition to compare it when it is returned...so I got the GPS and it was functioning properly; however I when I returned it she said that it was damaged because the end that goes into the light plug looks different than the other GPS in their inventory. I was so shocked.
I asked her to go to the vehicle and observe that it works inside the vehicle and she said that it doesn't matter, it is damaged. I would be charged $500 from the $1000 authorization hold. She also refused to call the manager whose name is Lee Goldman. RIDICULOUS!
I asked for a copy of the contract she said that I could not have it. She then told me to leave and come back on Monday. I refused. I called 911, and 2 police officers from the 17th Prec. came and said that they get calls about Prestige Car Rental all the time. From the police phone conversation with the manager, I was able to not be charged the $500.00.
The police also told me that if I have any extra charges on my debit card over the next few months to call the 17th prec. and they will handle it!! OMG! They are really fraudulent.
For the ones that wrote the good reviews: perhaps they passed the "I can not be scammed" test by Lisa. But for anyone who chooses to rent from them watch your credit and debit card directly because the police officers told me to watch my statements because there have been complaints that they do charge months later after the rentals.
I've rented from Prestige several times. They always come through in a pinch and their rates are always better than the "name brands". I usually rent economy type cars to take a quick family visit for the weekend. The cars run efficiently and are clean. I have no reason to spend more elsewhere. And.. they give you a free rental after 10 rentals. That's pretty cool!
Matched my budget – I booked a car from Prestige Car Rental for the first time for Thanksgiving. According to my research, this was the only rental that matched my budget. The car I rented was in good condition, except for the slight stain in one of the front carpets. Otherwise everything else went smoothly.
The customer service is excellent. They are patient, helpful, and take care to guide you to the most appropriate option in respect to your needs.

Different From Many Car Rentals – This car rental is very different from many car rentals in a good way. First of all, I have rented different vehicles from them on numerous occasions and I have found their service very consistent and reliable. They promise what they deliver. For example, never once have I come here and found my car not ready. The cars are always clean and in top condition. The gas tank is always full and the car is ready to go.

Reliable during peak seasons – Prestige car rental has okay service and rates, but it is one of the most consistent car rentals in New York. My experiences with other car rentals in the city have been very inconsistent in a BAD way so this is why I personally prefer Prestige Car Rental.

Terrible service - complete scam – Do not waste your time with this place. They overbook their cars on the pretence that some customers will miss the 30 minute 'hold period'.
Staff are simply rude and obnoxious and was very clear they were lying that my car was rented to another customer in the 5 minutes before I arrived. Truth is that despite my booking, there was no available car.
Y Do They Hold Ur Deposit Hostage? – Initial process was easy; click & pick up car! However, once you get your e-mail and then go to the location (33rd Street, Manhattan), it is a whole different thing. Agent was provincial at best, rude at best, curt at best and very confrontational. Suffice it to say that Prestige isn't the 'cheapest' in NYC, AND they hold your deposit hostage for no apparent reason blaming it on your bank! Prestige Agent was so crude, and so eww that we almost didn't rent from them (but we were there already!). When I had 'my bank' call them to authorize the release of the deposit, this agent simply refused, claiming that 'their' contract was closed but HSBC was holding the deposit. When I tried to contact a supervisor or manager, in order that a fax could be sent to HSBC to authorize release of my deposit immediately...Well it has been 5 hours and still he didn't send the fax & I'm ass out not being able to purchase vital medication! Obviously, holding onto your deposit for days after the contract is 'supposedly closed out', must allow their 'books' to reflect some sort of better balance sheet than not?! Although, they have Manhattan locations, go out of your way to Queens airports or anywhere else BUT PRESTIGE! No other rental car company keeps your deposit hostage for DAYS later, and blame it on your bank! Besides, the 33rd street Agent is frankly ghastly, rude, unprofessional, provincial about what NYC is, and just so...so YUCKY!!!
